The Cleveland Browns' star defensive tackle, Malik McDowell, was arrested in Florida on Monday after being accused of public exposure and hitting a Broward County deputy. Now, video has surfaced showing him stripping naked when cops approached him at a children's school, and him allegedly assaulting cops and resisting arrest. Everything inside.
In a disturbing video, NFL star Malik McDowell, who started 15 games for the Browns this past season, was arrested after a disturbing and chaotic scene that was caught on video:
Authorities state the 25-year-old, who is 6'6 and 300 pounds, was spotted near a Deerfield Beach, Florida children’s learning center naked that ended with him allegedly attacking a deputy. Malik is seen in the surveillance video naked and handcuffed - by both his hands and feet - and held down on the ground by multiple officers.
McDowell faces charges of aggravated battery of an officer, resisting an officer with violence and exposing his sexual organs in public, court records show.
Local10.com reports that officers approached him when McDowell allegedly went onto the property of a children's learning center - naked - and sat on the curb. The police report then states McDowell allegedly charged at the deputy with a closed fist and struck him in the face multiple times. The officer sustained severe injuries to his face and eye.
A judge found probable cause for the charges during McDowell’s first court appearance Tuesday morning.
Authorities say a learning center for children was in session when surveillance video shows McDowell going naked onto the property.
According to an arrest report, a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy approached McDowell, who was sitting on a curb, and McDowell charged at the deputy with a closed fist.
More details reveal:
“The defendant intentionally rammed his body into me and began swinging closed fist punches at me,” the deputy wrote in the report. “The punches were swung with extreme aggression with at least one strike hitting me on my right eye/temple area of my eye.”
The deputy said McDowell continued to hit him before running away. He was caught and the deputy used a stun gun to take him down, the arrest report said.
The deputy said his right eye was nearly closed because of swelling from the punches he absorbed in the attack and there is a “likelihood that I sustained permanent injury to my eye.” He also reported feeling “immediate and extreme pain” in his left heel/Achilles.
A prosecutor said Tuesday that the deputy has continued to have trouble walking since the incident.
When McDowell showed up for his court appearance today, his defense attorney told the judge that "someone must have slipped him something" that caused him to act this way.
An attorney representing McDowell said in the virtual court appearance that “somebody may have slipped him something or given him something that he wasn’t aware of, which explains some of this bizarre behavior.”
The judge ordered McDowell not to return to the learning center. Bail was posted at $25,000.
The Browns organization gave the usual obscure statement about the matter:
“We are aware of the very concerning incident and arrest involving Malik McDowell and are in the process of gathering more information,” the Browns said in a statement. “We understand the severity of this matter and our thoughts are for the well-being of all involved. We will have no further comment at this time.”
McDowell has faced multiple issues since joining the Seahawks in 2017. The Detroit native had an ATV accident and a string of off-field incidents led to his release from Seattle, an arrest and an NFL career that seemed gone.
NFL.com reveals:
After the ATV accident weeks prior to his rookie camp, McDowell had multiple run-ins with the law, including a DUI and disorderly conduct, and was charged with assault, resisting arrest, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Seattle released him in March of 2019, and the league suspended him for two games. Later in 2019, McDowell was sentenced to 11 months in jail after pleading guilty following his altercation with police.
"A lot of stuff drove me to what I had going on," McDowell said. "The accident was the biggest part. ... That's where I lost my faith, and I shouldn't have ever lost my faith.
"Doctors telling me I'd never be able to play again, but I've got doctors saying another thing and go to a team and their doctor says the same thing, go to another team, doctor says the same thing. Just trying to push through that was a hard thing for me. I got down on myself a lot, just knowing I might not ever be able to play football again. But God blessed me and I'm back here."

Malik said in September that his stint in jail helped revitalize his hunger for football.
