We've lost another music legend. R&B singer James Ingram has passed away after his battle with brain cancer. His story inside.
Singer James Ingram (pictured above at the Ebony Power 100 Gala in November 2014), a legend in his own right, has died.
His close friend Debbie Allen broke the sad news today, as TMZ confirmed the cause of death was brain cancer.
His biggest hit, "Baby Come To Me" - a duet with Patti Austin that he later also snag with Anita Baker - became a pop music staple in the early 80's after being featured on the soap opera "General Hospital." The two-time Grammy Award Winner for "100 Ways" and "Yah Mo B There" (12-time nominee) and two-time Academy Award winner (for Best Original Song) also recorded the classic "The Secret Garden" alongside Al B. Sure, El DeBarge and Barry White. He also co-wrote Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T." with Quincy Jones. A legend indeed.
The Ohio native played in Ray Charles' band when he first started his career, and went on to be a writing and singing force in the industry. And 80's babies and 90's kids certainly grew up with his music playing throughout the house thanks to their parents.
R.I.P. Mr. Ingram.
