Jaden Smith, who stars in the newly released Netflix series “The Get Down,” was the man of the hour last night at Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood event held at NeueHouse in Hollywood. The 18-year-old, along with a handful of young Hollywood stars, was celebrated for his influence in the industry and his charitable efforts.
On the carpet, Jaden, showing off his eclectic style in a floral Gucci Fall ’16 jacket, snapped it up with honoree Ansel Elgort as he made his way down the carpet.
He was joined by his girlfriend Sarah Synder, proving they’re still happily together although there were recent rumors that she had cheated on him. Hmph.
As you’ll notice, Jaden is holding up a box of water to his ear like a cell phone. We’ve spotted himcarrying this boxed water up to his ear like a cell phone on a few occasions and wondered what was up. Now, we know.
During his speech, Will & Jada’s son revealed details on his environment friendly water bottle. He said,"My name is Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, and the way that I like to give back to the world is through the environment, because the way that the earth is going now... it is taking us to a breaking point where we almost might not be able to survive."
"The plastic, that's the issue," Jaden said."I want to create a bottle of water that is made from renewable resources, that is not made from plastic, that you don't need fracking, that you don't need petroleum, that you don't need to go to war for this bottle of water," he said, showing off the water bottle he was holding up to his ear on the way in. It looks like the prototype to his new invention.

Jaden lands 1 of 5 new covers for the newest Variety magazine issue. Inside, he talked about always knowing he was an outsider and how he knew he would always be misunderstood.
“I’ve always looked at life differently,” he said. “I always knew no one was going to understand me — since before I could talk — and that’s why I was so quiet. I was very calm, very to myself. I could tell I felt about life differently than other kids; I could tell by the way they treated me.”
