Kerry Washington, who just joined Snapchat (woot!), has been making her rounds in NYC with another "Confirmation" screening and the morning shows. But shes also telling it like it is when it comes to how different the Anita Hill situation would have been if either person involved were white. Deets inside...
In a switch up from non-stop florals, Kerry Washington has been rocking only black & white this week in New York.
This morning, she chopped it up with Kelly Ripa and guest co-host Fred Savage on "Live." The braided beauty, who also snapped a pic with her glam squad, rocked an A-line black dress with a vertical embellishment for the occasion. They chatted about last night's shocker of a "Scandal" episode.
The "Confirmation" star and Executive Producer also ran into "House of Lies" sar Don Cheadle while making her way to the "Today Show."
But it's last night where she made her real thoughts about the Anita Hill debacle known. While Ms. Hill coming forward definitely shined a light on sexual harassment in the workplace, it took her getting dragged over the coals before folks respected her story.
So last night, at the "Confirmation" screening at Signature Theater in Manhattan, Kerry was asked if the Clarence Thomas hearings would have been any different, had either him or Anita Hill been white.
Her response:
"I think it's impossible to say that it wouldn't have been [different]," Washington told ABC News at the New York City premiere last night. "There's all kinds of ways it could've been different -- if he was white, if she was white."
She continued:
"I think race was a part of it. It may have even changed the course of the confirmation hearing. I think that element of race is always there. And had the race of the plaintiff been a white woman it may have even been more damaging to the Justice."
We couldn't agree more, unfortunately.
Kerry was joined at the post-screening Q&A by director Rick Famuyiwa and co-star Wendell Pierce.
"Confirmation" airs April 16th on HBO.
