We have some extremely sad news. New reports suggest the mother of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old Baltimore man who died from a spinal injury in police custody earlier this year, allegedly tried to commit suicide. Details inside….
Earlier this year, Baltimore literally went up in flames as rioters and protestors marched the streets after 25-year-old Freddie Gray was killed in police custody back in April due to spinal cord injuries he sustained while being transported to jail. Baltimore City state's attorney Marilyn Mosby ruled his death a homicide and said that criminal charges would be filed. Soon after, six officers were indicted and are currently awaiting trial.
Now, new reports claim Freddie’s mother, Gloria Darden, tried to take her life today as a result of the aforementioned events.
According to WJZ in Baltimore:
The call came in around 9:35 p.m. Wednesday for a person needing medical attention in a north Baltimore neighborhood. Sources tell WJZ that’s where Gloria Darden, the mother of Freddie Gray, attempted suicide and sustained superficial wounds. Sources say Darden was transported to a nearby hospital and no surgery or stitches were needed.
It’s being reported Freddie’s mom is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. This news comes just a few weeks after Freddie’s family was awarded $6.4 million to settle civil claims.
This is extremely heartbreaking and very unfortunate. We pray she finds the strength to keep living for the legacy of her son despite the unspeakable pain she’s going through. Gloria and the entire Gray family are in our prayers.
Story still developing…..
