Fab directress Ava DuVernay was the belle of the ball last night at ELLE magazine’s 22nd Women In Hollywood soiree held at the Four Seasons Los Angeles in Beverly Hills. The luxe party was thrown to celebrate the careers of the most talented names in film, so of course, the naturalista was included in the distinguished list of women.
The Oscar nominated director covers 1 of the 8 new ELLE magazine’s Women in Hollywood covers and it hits newsstands today.
“black•ish” starlet Tracee Ellis Ross popped up on the carpet in a golden floral jumpsuit accented with a wide belt. She finished her look with cheetah print platform pumps. Not our fave look of hers, but she’s fabulous nonetheless.
Before hitting the carpet, T-Murda gave us a sneak peek at her ensemble on the 'gram.
Simple, yet chic.
Straight Outta Compton actress Alexandra Shipp worked a black Solace London dress finished with a Kelly Wearstler clutch and Kimberly McDonald jewels. Her look was the perfect amount of sex appeal and sophistication. In movie news, Alexandra recently wrapped up filming as Storm in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse film, set to be released in May 2016.
LOLAWOLF singer and actress Zoe Kravitz hit the carpet with her boyfriend George Lewis Jr. (aka Twin Shadow). We’ve been following their relationship and this is the first time the couple hit a red carpet together. Cute.
Fab mom Zoe Saldana left the twins at home to celebrate the fabulous women in Hollywood. Since giving birth to her twin boys Bowie& Cy, Zoe has been getting back to work on a few projects. The Avatar actress is currently filming the sci-fi thriller Star Trek Beyond. We hear she’s also has a few projects in production including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, I Kill Giants and 3 new installments of Avatar.
R&B songstress Mary J. Blige, who’s gearing up for her “MJB Live!” tour, was tapped to present an award for the evening.
Celebrity stylist Rachel Roy looked amazing in her tuxedo jacket and slacks.
Loving this! “Scream Queens” star Niecy Nash got glammed up in a black flirty frock for the festivities.
Gorge.
“Rosewood” actress Lorraine Toussaint came out to support her colleagues. She too looked glamourous in all black.
Middle of Nowhere actress Emayatzy Corinealdi was styling in a lemon chiffon hip hugging midi dress. FUN FACT: Ava DuVernay directed the 2012 film Middle of Nowhere.
"Revenge" star Ashley Madekwe put on a leggy display on the carpet.
Inside....
Mary J took the stage to present Ava with her award for all of her accomplishments in the industry.
While accepting her award, Ava addressed the gender gap in Hollywood comparing her career to a male director/friend of hers. She said they both showed films at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and were taking on their first big-budget projects. She said,
"I got a big movie," she remembered telling him, talking about the $20 million budget for Selma."He said he had gotten a big movie, too. It was Jurassic World. Now... he'll go off and do Star Wars, and I'm happy for him," DuVernay said of her friend Colin Trevorrow. "But think about the women who were also in that class at Sundance 2012."
Zoe took the podium to introduce actress Salma Hayek.
Ava then posed it up with the other leading ladies in Hollywood including, Alicia Vikander, Salma Hayek, Amy Schumer, Dakota Johnson, ELLE Editor-in-Chief Robbie Myers, and host Joel McHale.
Afterwards, Zoe Kravitz caught up with honorees Dakota Johnson and Alicia Vikander.
Over on the 'gram...
Ava gushed on her incredible night, captioning "Dang, I had some fun last night at @elleusa's Women in Hollywood Awards! Congrats to my fellow cover women! Cool ladies. And true thanks to my very own Sisters in Hollywood - Lorraine, Emayatzy and Niecy - who hold me up. And to our very own "wow" factor @therealmaryjblige who presented the award to me like the jewel of a lady she is. And to Meryl Streep who is always so, so warm to me. And to the ladies who transformed me from editing room hobbit to red carpet ready. Appreciate you, @savvystarbeauty and @lovingyourhair! A yummy night of sisterhood. Fuel. xo"
Fab times!
