Ratchet-music artists are just as serious about their coin as others.
Rich Homie Quan filed a civil suit in the Northern District of Georgia court on August 5th, under his government name Dequantes Lamar, calling out his label Think It's A Game Entertainment (TIG) and its founder Girvan Henry.
Quan is seeking more than $2 million in unpaid earnings from his label and its founder, and has severed ties with Henry and TIG Entertainment. The "Flex" rapper claims the memo agreement between himself and TIG should be tossed because it didn't provide necessary material terms for the agreement to stand.
The Atlanta-based "Type of Way" rapper listed 12 counts in his complaint, which we've seen, including Fraud, Fund Misappropriation and Misrepresentation of Ownership.
Quan says TIG and Henry haven't paid up for at least four albums, which featured songs including “Flex” and his international hit “Type of Way.”
The suit also calls out Def Jam Recordings via a partnership with Henry, and record label Gold Gang Music Group, LLC, in which Def Jam paid Henry and Gold Gang $550,000 and distributed “Type of Way.” But Quan says Henry and Gold Gang had no rights to the song’s masters and he never signed a record deal with Def Jam or Gold Gang.
Henry allegedly bought property in Atlanta with said money, so he's getting sued for that too.
As for the Misrepresentation claim, Quan says Henry is falsely claiming ownership of Rich Homie Quan's logo by using it to file trademarks and to profit from it.
Quan’s litigation attorney, Leron Rogers, stated:
“Unfortunately this is a classic case of a music artist being ripped off by those claiming to have his best interest in mind. Quan has more than delivered on his part of the partnership, delivering hit songs that have sold hundreds of thousands of copies. Mr. Henry has taken advantage of Quan, and now it’s time for him to receive his just due.”
A rep for Quan tells us he has no beef with labelmate Trinidad James, who is also signed to TIG.
