After an almost four-year hiatus, Jazmine Sullivan is back with a brand new album titled Reality Show. And this morning, she hit up “The Breakfast Club” to reveal the REAL reason she decided to leave the music industry. Find out what she dished inside….

Jazmine Sullivan is back! And she has a brand new album for her triumphant return to the limelight. Jazmine released her third studio album Reality Show yesterday after leaving the music scene almost four years ago. And now the Philly native is opening up about the real reason she decided to take a hiatus from the music industry.

You’ll recall, the eight-time Grammy nominated songstress tweeted back in 2011 that she was leaving the industry because “it wasn’t fun anymore”. But there seems to be more to the story and Jazmine is finally opening up about it.

This morning, the “Bust Your Windows” singer stopped by Power 105’s The Breakfast Club to dish the dirt on the abusive relationship that caused her to quit doing what she loves so much: Singing.

In the interview, the 27-year-old songstress revealed she decided to leave the industry after being involved in an abusive relationship. She said,

“I left music because I was in a really bad relationship. It had gotten abusive. Just having to deal with the industry and that my personal life was so bad, I had to go”.

She said her former lover was mentally abusive and it eventually turned into him abusing her physically. The turning point for her was when he SLAPPED her so hard she couldn’t hear out one of her ears, which could have ended her singing career. She said it was a real eye-opener for her to leave the toxic relationship.

The R&B songstress admitted she got really depressed while she was dealing with her former boyfriend. And to keep everyone out of her personal life, she made the excuse that music wasn't fun anymore to keep what was really going on under wraps. She explained,

"When I wrote that, I was going through some things, so I was kinda just trying to give an excuse without really telling what exactly was going on with my life. That was the thing that I could think of without saying, 'You know what everybody, I'm going through some real sh*t.”

There is one song on the album, “Forever Doesn’t Last” which addresses her break up, which she said was therapeutic for her to get through her failed relationship. But she also has a track titled “Masterpiece”, which she said is about finding her worth. Good for her.

She also talked her song “Dumb” featuring fellow Philly native Meek Mill. She joked about feeling like ELEVATORGATE (the fight between Solange& Jay Z) stole a little of her shine after the song's release.

So what was she doing on her music industry hiatus? She revealed,“Watch reality shows!” She admitted she's obsessed with reality tv shows and all of its ratchetness.

As for whether she would ever do her own reality show, she explained, “The album is my way of kinda showing my reality without going that route. I’m not sure if I would do it because like I said I like to try and keep whatever I got going on behind the scenes”.
