Y’all, Black Panther is coming and we’re finally going back to Wakanda!
Last night, Marvel unveiled the first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to the historic 2018 film, which starred the late Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, at Comic-Con in San Diego.
As a pleasant surprise, Nigerian singer TEMS - who recently won a Grammy - sings a cover for Bob Marley's“No Woman No Cry” that is then mashed up with KendrickLamar’s hit single, “Alright.”

Whewwww. All the feels.
At the very beginning, it’s evident a funeral of some sort goes down as crowds of Wakandans are dressed in white.
According to the synopsis, the Wakandans “must fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T'Challa's death. As they strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (MartinFreeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Namor and the Atlanteans appear to be the antagonists.”
We see Lupita's character first, followed by appearances from actress Letitia Wright in an all-white outfit. And then - the mural. *cue up the tears*
A mural painted of T’Challa appears as veteran actress Angela Basset's character Queen Ramonda delivers a SUPER emotional speech:"I am queen of the most powerful nation in the world and now my entire family is gone. Have I not given everything?"

In the trailer, we also see an underwater birth, however, it’s unclear who has given birth.

“I May Destroy You” creator/star MichaelaCoel will star in the sequel. We see her preparing for battle in the clip.
After much speculation, it has been confirmed TenochHuerta will star as Namor McKenzie, king of a hidden undersea nation. The upcoming sequel also stars Dominique Thorne, Mabel Cadena and Alex Livanalli.
At the end of the trailer, fans are left wondering WHO will take the mantle of the Black Panther? Someone is seen in the superhero’s suit, but it’s not revealed who it is. Any guesses?
If we had to guess, we’d say Shuri since she becomes the Black Panther in the comic books. It's also possible that it's Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan.

At Comic-Can, Ryan Coolerwas joined by cast members Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, Tenoch Huerta and Florence Kasumba. The famed director - who helmed the original Black Panther - opened up about marching on following the death of Chadwick. The Black Panther star died in August 2020, following a private, four-year battle with colon cancer.
“We put our love for Chadwick into this film," he said. "We also put our passion. This film has a ton of action and humor. It’s also a roller coaster of a movie. It goes to new places in Wakanda that we’ve never been before but other corners of the MCU.”
“It’s going to be hard to follow that up, but we’ll try,” Coogler said. “It’s been five years since I was here. I sat about there and we premiered the first footage from ‘Black Panther 1,’ and sitting next to me was our T’Challa, the late great Chadwick Boseman.”
He shared Chadwick squeezed his shoulder while watching the first footage.
“I promise you, I can feel his hand on me right now,” he said.

During the event, Ryan dropped a few tidbits about the sequel, revealing“it goes to new places in Wakanda that we haven’t seen before and it goes to new places in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
The earth color of varies because each Sigil was made in a different part of Wakanda, and so the land varies. The Golden Tribe is the color of the earth in Golden City. Just a little factoid! Soooooooooo many throughout the film. Look for them all!

For the sequel, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Letitia Wright, and WinstonDuke are all reprising their roles. British actor DanielKaluuya previously confirmed he couldn’t return to reprise his role due to a scheduling conflict with Jordan Peele’s horror film, Nope.
“The universe of Wakanda is expanding and you have a lot to look forward to,” said Lupita.
“It’s a labor of love, and I have so much gratitude to be a part of it and be able to share it with you,” Winston told Variety about the sequel.
“It’s a blessing. We’ve all grown so much as a family, and it feels great to see you guys and honor big bro at the same time,” Letitia said.
