In sad news, hip hop legend DJ Kay Slay has died after a long battle with Covid-19.  The community is paying tribute to his 40+ year career and being one of THE faces of the New York radio & DJ scene.  More inside.

DJ Klay Slay, government name Keith Grayson, was only 55.  His devastating death, confirmed by his family and his home of Hot 97 where he hosted “The Drama Hour” for more than two decades, comes on the heels of him being hospitalized since January of this year while battling Covid-19.

The Harlem native went from being a teenage graffiti artist in the 80's to selling bootleg mixtapes on street corners in the early '90s and released his first studio album, “The Streetsweeper, Vol. 1,” in May 2003. He went on to sell over 350,000 albums and has a six studio album discography as a pioneer of the DJ-led studio album era.

Kay's longtime friend and industry manager Wack 100 gave an emotional statement and also recently spoke on Kay's status after he was placed on a ventilator.

Kid Capri, Maino,

Our condolences go out to Kay Slay's family, loved ones, friends and fans. R.I.P.
