Looks like we’ll be seeing less of Kanye West after all the drama he brought to kick off 2022.
The Grammy winning rapper has pulled out of his headlining performance at the 2022 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival amid reports that he’s “going away.” Now, festival organizers are scrambling to replace the headliner ahead of the Coachella festivities, which will kick off April 15th.
Sources in Ye’s camp tell TMZ that the Chi-town rapper decided to pull the plug on his performance just two weeks before the two-weekend long event in Indio, CA. Ye had planned to have Travis Scott as a special guest. Now that he’s out, so is Travis. Previously, Ye threatened to pull out of Coachella if Billie Eilish didn’t apologize for shading Travis over the Astroworld Tragedy. As far as we know, she hasn’t issued an apology.
The SICKO MODE rapper was originally scheduled to headline Coachella in 2020, but it was canceled due to COVID. Organizers then booked him for 2022, but they pulled his performance following his deadly Astroworld Festival on November 5, 2021. A few weeks before the 2022 Grammys, producers pulled Ye’s performance due to his "concerning online behavior."
Sans his presence, the DONDA rapper won two Grammys - Best Rap Song for “Jail,” ft. Jay-Z, and Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Hurricane,” ft. Lil Baby and TheWeeknd. Ye and Hov are now tied for the most wins for a Hip Hop artist ever, with a total of 24 Grammys each.
Before the Grammys rolled around, sources toldPage Six that Ye allegedly told his ex-wife Kim Kardashian that he was “going away to get help” and would not be “making any public appearances or inflammatory social media statements.”
The “going away” reports comes on the heels of Ye and Kim joining forces to co-parent at one of Saint’s soccer games recently.
