LisaRaye McCoy, her mother Katie McCoy, and her daughter Kai McCoy, were broken so they decided to enlist life coach Iyanla Vanzant to help them find common ground and to break down generational curses that have plagued their family. Being locked down in quarantine together in LisaRaye’s home as caused even more friction in the family.
LisaRaye and her mother have some deep-seeded issues that needed to be worked out to elevate their relationship. In the teaser clip, LisaRaye & her mother sound off about LisaRaye’s father and things got heated.
Digging into the past, Katie opened up about the abuse she endured at the hands of LisaRaye’s father, David McCoy, and how she sacrificed so that LisaRaye could have a better life. She said LisaRaye’s father died after his girlfriend shot him in 1988. He was still married to Katie at the time.
“She knew her daddy was a damn hoe,” LisaRaye’s mom said.
“What do I do about it now, mom? Can I buy you?,” LisaRaye responded.
“You ain’t got enough damn money to buy me!,” Katie responded. Sheesh.
It was revealed during a conversation with Iylana that LisaRaye’s mother hadn’t healed from her failed relationship with LisaRaye’s father. LisaRaye & her father were so close that he reportedly told her that if one of them were to die, the other had to take his or her own life. Not long after his death, LisaRaye supposedly deliberately ran her car into a tree to honor their pledge. She thankfully wasn’t successful.
Iyanla called Katie a “bitter, entitled woman who feels like she’s entitled to something.” It seems Katie isn’t happy with her relationship with her daughter and doesn’t hide it.
