Dave Chappelle made his way to Spike Lee's BlacKKKlansman LA premiere where Yara Shahidi and Kelly Rowland shut the red carpet down. Corey Hawkins and his BlacKKKlansman co-stars were also in the mix. Flicks inside...
Before Spike Lee& Jordan Peele's BlacKKKlansman film takes over the box office this weekend, the cast, crew and other celebrities made their way inside the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills for the LA premiere of the film.
While Dave Chappelle isn't in the movie, he came out to support his homie Spike Lee, who directs the film. If you watched "Chappelle's Show," then you may remember a sketch he did where there's a blind black man who's the leader of the KKK group. It all ties in with the movie, as it's based on a true story about an African-American detective (John David Washington, "Ballers") and his Jewish partner (Adam Driver) who team up for an undercover mission to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan in 1979.
It's set in the 70s, but it's quite timely for everything that's currently going on in America.
It's reported there will be a lot of digs at Trump throughout the film and we can't wait to see them. In one scene, a KKK member talks about embracing an “America first” policy. The film draws comparisons to Trump and and former Grand Wizard David Duke (Topher Grace, "That 70s Show"). The ending scene also features real footage from the Alt-Right (deadly) protest that went down in Charlottesville in August 2017 that Spike said"ties the entire movie together in the most profound and emotionally effective way."
BlacKKKlansman has also been receiving rave reviews online, which makes us even more anxious to see it.
Back on the carpet...
Come through two-piece! This is the perfect ensemble for a summer red carpet event. Not too dressy and shows just enough skin. Kelly Rowland rolled up on the red carpet for the film's premiere rocking AREA's white wrap top and wide leg pants from the designer's FW18 collection.
So chic.
"Grown-ish" starlet Yara Shahidi, who covers the newest issue of The Hollywood Reporter, turned it up a notch in an embellished black Prada dress paired with black booties. She styled her hair in bantu knots to celebrate black culture.
She brought her mother, Keri Shahidi, along as her date.
The BlacKKKlansman cast was in full effect, including Corey Hawkins, braided beauty Laura Harrier (rocking a LOEWE dress), John David Washington, and the gorgeous Damaris Lewis (also in braids):
Our favorite auntie in our head Alfre Woodard came out to support.
And so did actress Garcelle Beauvais and "Power" creator Courtney Kemp Agboh.
At the afterparty...
The cast and crew mixed and mingled, stopping to snap pics in between. Love the Prince shirt Spike!
Producer Jordan Peele even showed up:
Cheers!
