Denzel Washington has shared the secret to his 35-year marriage to his wife Pauletta Washington. She clearly taught him well. Find out what he said inside...
A good marriage in this day and age is a huge feat, let alone one that has lasted over 35-years and one of the spouses being a global superstar. It's just unheard of.
However, Denzel Washington and his wife of 35-years Pauletta Washington have managed to make it work and are still seemingly happy. Well, not seemingly. They ARE happy!
So what's the secret to a longstanding marriage?
“I do what I’m told. I keep my mouth shut,” the Equalizer 2 star joked to PEOPLE.
The 63-year-old said the secret to their marriage is his wonderful wife and he sung her praises like every man should.
“There’s too many things!” Denzel explained. “What pops into my head: security, food, a beautiful home. The difference between a house and a home, it’s a big difference. You can buy a house, but that doesn’t make it a home – and not to say a man can’t make a home a home, but my wife has made our house a home, and raised these beautiful kids [John David, 33, Katia, 30, twins Olivia and Malcolm, 27] and protected them and sacrificed for them, she did the heavy-lifting.”
Aww! Stan for your wife then, Denzel!
He also said her cooking skills are A1.
“She has a few [specialties]. I’ve been eating her curry chicken since I’ve known her,” he said. “I used to make it too, but not as good as hers.”
The couple celebrated their 35th anniversary last month and kept it real low-key.
“We just chilled, had some dinner,” he said. “It was kind of quiet.”
Be sure to check out Denzel as a kick a** Lyft driver in Equalizer 2, which is in theaters now. His sexy son John David returns to the new season of "Ballers" this fall.
