Black Panther director Ryan Coogler wants children, but he specifically wants a daughter. In fact, he wants more than one. Find out why inside…
We’re days away before Black Panther invades the box office and director Ryan Coogler has us itching like old weave ready to see it.
YBF correspondent Unique Chapman sat down with the famed director in Washington, D.C. where he opened up about wanting children with his wife Zinzi Evans (pictured below at last night's Wakanda Fashion event in NYC). But, he was very specific whether he wanted a boy or a girl.
Something about working with the powerful group of women in the movie – including Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett and Letitia Wright– tugged on his heart and he totally wants girls. And more than ONE. That #BlackGirlMagic was enough to make Ryan want to produce some of his own.
“I found I want daughters real, real bad, he dished to TheYBF.com. Like plural. I thought, making Fruitvale (Station), I want kids. But like ,on this one, I have to have some daughters."
Wow. He knows what's good for him.
We SO can't wait to see the ladies kick a** in this Marvel film.
The 31-year-old director said after shooting this movie, he realized African-American and African cultures are a lot alike and that we didn't lose our culture (like he thought) when slaves were brought to America.
“We as African Americans are really, really African. Our African American culture, almost everything we do, is very African. I grew up thinking we had our African culture taken from us, but the truth is we didn’t. We just don’t really know. That was something crazy to find out about myself.”
All the box office hype that's surrounding Black Panther is deafening. In the best way. The all-black superhero cast (well, mostly black) is about to bring out EVERYONE as it is predicted the film will rake in a record breaking $165 million or more for the four-day President's Day holiday weekend. Earlier, Fandango revealed that advanced movie ticket sales had already set a record for any marvel movie on its first day of online pre-sales.
So basically, if you don't get your ticket early and get there on time, you might miss out. You've got about 3 days to get your ish together.
