Erin Jackson Is The 1st Black Woman To Make U.S. Olympic Long-Track Skating Team + Teen Figure Skater Starr Andrews Just Changed The Game

Black Excellence is taking over the ice! In case you haen't heard, newbie Erin Jackson has made history after clinching a spot on the U.S. Olympic long-track skating team four months after starting the sport. Also, teen figure skater Starr Andrews joined forces with Whitney Houston for a slay worthy routine. Get it all inside…

The Winter Olympics just added some more #BlackGirlMagic to its roster.

Erin Jackson is a real-life YBFer and she’s proved that you can do ANYTHING you set your mind up to do.

The 25-year-old long-track speed skater showed up and showed off at the 500-meter race during the during the long track speed skating Olympic trials at the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The YBF skater crossed the finish line at 39.22 seconds for her first run and clocked in at 39.04 in her second run. Woot!

And guess what? She first touched the ice four (yes, FOUR) months ago! YASSSS!

“I really wasn’t expecting any of this, just coming in as a newbie, just trying to do the best I can,” she said after her win.“I still don’t even know.”

She’ll be joining Brittany Bowe and Heather Bergsma, two former Olympians, to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang County, South Korea next month.

The former inline skater and roller derby athlete is the first black woman to qualify for the long-track competition and she’s the third black athlete to make a U.S. Olympic speedskating team.

Erin has launched a T-shirt fundraiser to help pay for her dad to watch her compete at the Winter Olympics:

Starr Andrews is making waves in the figure skating world.

The 16-year-old put a cool spin on her routine during the U.S. National Championships recently.

The figure skater slayed her routine to a cover of Whitney Houston’s 1988 Olympic anthem “One Moment In Time.” Yes, she can sing AND skate. What an innovative spin.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to send her to the Winter Olympics next month. She reportedly came in sixth place after her performance earned her the fifth-best long program score. #Haters

Starr also rocked out to another cover, featuring Beyonce’s “Fever” for the short program.

If Starr looks familiar, you may remember her as a young figure skater when she went viral. When she was 9, her performance to Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” went viral.
