Access to platforms is one of the most important things to an activist's mission, and the stars finally made something happen. Since attention tends to go only to white women when they start speaking up about social issues, even if it's women of color who are more disadvantaged or who started the conversation in the first place, many actresses decided to bring activists as their plus one. A surefire way to get them the spotlight they deserve.
The actual founder of the #MeToo movement, and one of TIME's Most Influential People, Tarana Burke, made her way to the carpet with Globe nominee Michelle Williams.

She said on the red carpet to E! news:
“It’s deeply humbling. This is something I started out of necessity. And something I thought that my community needed. And it’s grown over the years but I never could have envisioned it growing like this. But this moment is so powerful because we’re serving up a collision, well collision isn’t the best word, a collaboration between these two worlds that people don’t usually put together and would most likely have us pitted against each other. So it’s really powerful to be on the red carpet tonight. And for people like Michelle to give up their time so we can talk about our causes.”
