New trophy...new bae. Common had the best weekend EVER! Deets and pics inside of Common going public with new girlfriend Angela Rye,plus Ava Duvernay, Angela Bassett and more raking it up at the Creative Arts Emmys.
This weekend at the 2-night Creative Arts Emmys, YBF folks took over and raked up all the accolades. And Common's big Emmy win was extra sweet...now that he's gone public with new girlfriend, political correspondent Angela Rye!
The twosome, who have been dating for months on the low (but have been spotted out together a time or two), hit the red carpet together Saturday at the Microsoft Theater in L.A. And we're totally here for this extra woke couple!
Hottie Common took home the Emmy for writing the song “Letter to the Free”. He shared the award for outstanding original music and lyrics with Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins for their contribution to Ava DuVernay’s Netflix documentary “13th.”
This new Emmy means he's one step closer to achieving that EGOT status! His bae Angela gushed over it all on IG (with heart emojis and everything) saying:
Awwww!
Common dedicated his award to all the incarcerated men and women as he's been on a mission to visit prisons and hear inmates' stories lately.
Congrats Common!
Also winning big this weekend:
"13th" director Ava Duvernay totally raked it up: Eight nominations and four win for her stunning documentary. After she picked up the award for Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction Special and many others, she spoke to the press backstage about her powerful wins:
Congrats Ava and team!
Sheesh! Angela Bassett was RED HOT on last night's carpet. She was there to present and accompany her Emmy award winning husband Courtney B. Vance. Oh, and this is 59. 50 freakin' 9!
Speaking of red hot:
"Claws" star Niecy Nash flew solo in this super hot look.
Gotta love these two.
Kamau Bell hit the carpet with his wife and won a creative Arts Emmy in the reality category for his CNN original series "United Shades of America with Kamau Bell".
The fellas -- LL Cool J, John Singleton and Brian Tyree Henry -- kept it cool on the carpet.
Laverne Cox heated up the carpet in this look.
