YBF Fresh Face Sonequa Martin-Green is gearing up to take over the Star Trek universe as the first black female lead. Let’s celebrate the YBF chick inside…
#BlackGirlMagic is in full effect!
Sonequa Martin-Green is about to be television’s new “IT” girl. The YBF chick, who starred in “The Walking Dead,” is gearing up to make history and we’re more than excited about it.
Sonequa is the lead star in the upcoming “Star Trek: Discovery” series. Nabbing a lead role is an accomplishment in itself, but she’s making history. She is the franchise’s first black female lead! Woot!
"The honor is mine,” Sonequa said during the 2017 TCA Summer Press Tour. “The pleasure is mine. I feel that we are all running over—our cups are running over with gratitude and excitement.”
"We're bursting at the seams from the weight of it and the breadth of it. We just—we couldn't be more thrilled to share this journey with you because we understand its significance. We know we're telling a story we believe in. Everybody is so passionate…This is an epicly grand, yet microscopically tuned, deeply emotional story. We don't take it for granted. We don't take it lightly. I certainly don't. I feel like—it's a dream to be able to be a part of history. It's a dream. So, thank you."
Even if you aren’t a Star Trek fan, Sonequa (above at CBS Television Studios' Summer Soiree) makes you at least want to check it out.
