Tyler, The Creator is making headline waves after his epic response to why black representation is so important in the cartoon/animated world.
Before he hit the stage at Panorama in NYC (above), the Flower Boy rapper hit up San Diego Comic Con to promote his upcoming cartoon, “The Jellies!”
A reporter asked Tyler why he chose to make the main character, Cornell, black as he was previously white on the GOLF Media app. As soon as that woman asked him that question, it was as if something ticked in Tyler’s brain. And he let her have it. Not in a bad way, but you can tell he’s very passionate about black representation in the animated world.
“Why can’t n*ggas have anything man?, he started off to answer the reporter's question. "How many f*ckin black cartoon characters is it on TV right now? Name five. I’ll give you time. It is none. We don’t got sh*t.”
“So, I said f*ck that. We about to make this n*gga black, and he ain’t got no guns, he ain’t shoot no fucking basketball, and he’s a fucking goober, and we gone put him on TV. And he’s the lead character, he ain’t the comic relief, he ain’t the sidekick, he the lead n*gga.”

It was just announced Solo will be joining comedy legend Dave Chappelle in a just-added show for his LIVE FROM RADIO CITY Residency to celebrate his 30th anniversary in the world of stand-up comedy. Comedy and music? We’re there! She’ll be hitting the stage on August 22nd.
During his Residency, Dave will combine his love of comedy with his appreciation of hip-hop as he shares the bill with some of today’s best comedians and musicians. Solo (who'll hit the stage August 22nd) isn’t the only act joining the show-- The Roots, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, Common, Vince Staples, Big Boi Chris Rock, Jeff Ross, Arsenio Hall, Erykah Badu, Leslie Jones, Michael Che, Colin Jost, Chance The Rapper, Trevor Noah, Childish Gambino, Ms. Lauryn Hill, yasiin bey, Talib Kweli, Ali Wong, John Mayer, and Lil Jon.
There will also be a few special guests for a few surprises.
