It’s a lot of good things happening at the OWN Network. “Queen Sugar” has been renewed for season 3. Also, Ava DuVernay and Will Packer have inked first-look deals with Oprah's Harpo Films and the OWN network. Deets inside…
“Queen Sugar” fans rejoice! We're getting more of Kofi's sexiness and more family drama. *praise him*
The OWN Network has given Ava DuVernay’s hit series the greenlight for a third season and we can’t be happier. It’s one of our TV obsessions and we can't get enough. Season 2 already has our emotions all over the place. And seeing hottie Kofi Siriboe every week makes it all worth it.
More good news for Ava.
The Oscar nominated directress has inked a new first-look TV deal with Oprah’s Harpo Films for television and digital media. Ava’s recently announced limited series “Central Park Five” is the first project under Ava’s new deal. By the way, Lady O is starring in Ava's upcoming Disney movie, A Wrinkle In Time.
“I’m so proud of Ava and her ability as a filmmaker to challenge the status quo and push for inclusiveness on screen and behind the camera,"said Oprah. “I love, love, love the work we have been able to create so far. I am looking forward to developing many more meaningful projects together.”
We’re looking forward to them as well. Congrats Ava!
Another director making boss moves…
The YBF filmmaker come up is real.
Will Packer, in partnership with Discovery Communications and Universal Pictures, is starting a new company called Will Packer Media. He'll be bringing production and branded content to TV and digital scripted and unscripted series. And it's all targeting millennial audiences.
The Girls Trip producer will serve as the CEO of Will Packer Media and will have offices in three major cities: L.A., NYC and Atlanta. With the new company, Packer is looking to start engaging a younger more tech-savy audience. The new company will be a separate entity from his Will Packer Productions brand.
“We are creating a new model for content production that sees TV and digital as equals, and combines the best of storytelling and brands for an underserved audience,” Packer said.
“As the media industry continues its rapid transformation, and as younger, more diverse viewers seek to be nourished by content across all screens, it’s more important than ever to have a direct line to the most creative minds in the business,” said David Zaslav, President and CEO, Discovery Communications.
In one of its first moves, Will Packer Media has acquired creative and technology agency Narrative_, which will form a core part of the new company. Co-founded by Tricia Clarke-Stone and Russell Simmons, Narrative_ develops marketing campaigns for blue-chip brands and start-ups including Under Armour, JCPenney, Samsung and Santo Mezquila, and creates technology products to help brands build deeper connections with consumers.
Boss move, especially in the ever changing digital landscape. We’re SO here for this. Congrats Will!
