Janelle Monae, Jennifer Hudson, Tina Lawson and more are heating up the east and west coast at a few events. Go inside to peep their fab flicks…
The YBF ladies are making moves hitting up events on the east and west coast.
Janelle Monae made her way to Marie Claire’s “Fresh Face” celebration to celebrate her new cover at the Doheny Room in West Hollywood.
The WONDALAND honcho served up an eclectic look for the event, rocking an Off-White concoction from the brand’s SS17 RTW collection. We feelin' it?
For the cover story, the actress/activist dished on women empowerment and how EVERYONE needs to start throwing some respect on the va-jay-jay.
"People have to start respecting the vagina. Until every man is fighting for our rights, we should consider stopping having sex. I love men. But evil men? I will not tolerate that. You don't deserve to be in my presence. If you're going to own this world and this is how you're going to rule this world, I am not going to contribute anymore until you change it. We have to realize our power and our magic. Because I am all about black-girl magic, even though I'm standing with all women. But this year? This year, I am so carefree black girl."
"How To Get Away With Murder" star Aja Naomi King also nabbed a Marie Claire cover and she was in the mix to celebrate.
The Birth of a Nation star got fresh in a black Miu Miu frock with feather and crystal embellishments. Gorge.
Opening up to the magazine, the 32-year-old actress revealed how other YBF starlets before her inspired her to not settle for less and to go after whatever role her heart desires.
"Maybe I'm outdated in thinking this, but because I'm a young black woman and don't see very many being the lead in a film, I have this fear, Will I be working? When I first started in this industry, my goal was to be some best friend. The sidekick. I thought that would be an accomplishment. But seeing people like Viola and Tracee Ellis Ross and Gabrielle Union and Lupita [Nyong'o]—who was two classes behind me at Yale—I can hope for more."
At another event on the east coast...
Jennifer Hudson, who stars in Adam Sandler’s “Sandy Wexler,” brought sunshine on the carpet at the Tiffany & Co. 2017 Blue Book Collection Gala held at St. Ann’s Warehouse in NYC.
JHud struck a few poses in a yellow ruffled DSquared mini dress, serving up some leg action.
Oscar nominated actress Ruth Negga was also in the mix, snapping it up alongside JHud in a Gucci Pre-Fall 2017 ensemble.
Elsewhere in the Big Apple...
Beyonce’s mom Tina Lawson got all dressed up in a black power suit to accept the Community Commerce Impact Award at Variety’s Power Of Women luncheon held at Cipriani Midtown in NYC. Push through Queen!
Mama Tina is racking up those frequent fly miles. She posted an airport flick on Instagram captioning, "Landed in New York at 9 am this morning Left around 2pm back to La we go . Fastest trip I ever took! Kinda Fun"
Y'all know Mama Tina loves sharing cute videos of herself and her husband Richard Lawson on IG, so get into her newest one below:
Cute.
Back on the carpet at the event...
Six-Time Tony Award winner and new mom Audra McDonald popped up at the event in a cut-out shoulder LBD on the carpet before she was honored.
Honree Gayle King also hit the carpet before she was showered with praise. She made her way on the carpet, bumping into Sen. Cory Booker:
Transgender activist and author Janet Mock also rocked a LBD that hugged her curves in all the right places.
"Orange Is The New Black" actress Danielle Brooks came out to show support, serving up a blue brocade Eloquii suit. Hmm, not our fave ensemble on the gorgeous actress, but she's still a fab chick nonetheless.
By the way, season 5 of "OITNB" debuts June 9th.
Earlier this week, it was revealed Danielle made PEOPLE's Most Beautiful List and here's what she had to say about the honor:
Congrats to Tina, Audra and Gayle!
