Five months after a historic presidential election night, details surrounding Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton are coming to light.
In a new book chronicling her 2016 presidential bid called “Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign” by political journalists Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, it details how the former Secretary of State issued an apology to President Barack Obama after Donald Trump nabbed the election.
Before conceding to Trump, Hillary spoke with Mr. Obama where she apologized for letting him and the country down.
“Mr. President,” she said softly. “I’m sorry.”
The book noted, “She had let him down. She had let herself down. She had let her party down. And she had let her country down. Obama’s legacy and her dreams of the Presidency lay shattered at Donald Trump’s feet. This was on her. Reluctantly she rose from her seat and took the phone.”
Before she made that call to Trump, President O had to encourage her to make the call once it was clear that Trump had won the election. Earlier on election night, the White House had urged Hillary to concede after losing some battleground states, but she wasn’t quite ready.
Mr. Obama eventually called her up and directly told her, “You need to concede,” to avoid a messy recount. And that’s exactly what she did.
As for life after the election….
The Obamas are still enjoying life after the White House and we’re happy about it. The former First Couple was spotted living it up on a well deserved yacht party with Oprah, her bestie Gayle King and a few other high profile celebs, including Bruce Springsteen and Tom Hanks.
