The 69th Writers Guild Awards took over L.A. and NYC last night, a week before the 2017 Oscars.
On the west coast, “Scandal” star Kerry Washington trekked inside The Beverly Hilton Hotel to join Hollywood’s biggest film and television stars for a night of celebration. The Writers Guild Awards recognizes outstanding achievement in writing for film, television, new media, videogames, news, radio, promotional, and graphic animation.
Show off! The Golden Globe nominee struck several poses in a custom black strapless corset Sally LaPointe dress accessorized with Sofia Webster shoes and a Jimmy Choo clutch.
The Confirmation actress presented the Paul Selvin Award to screenwriter Susannah Grant for her script for the HBO's Confirmation.
FX’s “Atlanta” series scooped up two big awards, including Best Comedy Series and Best New Series. Writers Jamal Olori, Stafani Robinson and Stephen Glover (Donald Glover’s brother) were in attendance to accept the award. Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) was not in attedance, but his team was happy to accept the award in his absence.
Filmmaker Barry Jenkins, who wrote the script for Moonlight, won Best Original Screenplay.
Daddy-daughter time! FENCES star Mykelti Williamson brought his daughter Nikki Williamson along as his date for the evening.
On the east coast....
Curves ahead! “Orange Is The New Black” star Danielle Brooks strutted her stuff in a gray Christian Siriano bodycon dress and black heels on the red carpet inside NYC’s Edison Ballroom for the Writers Guild Awards. Hmmm....
While she was tapped to present an award, the Emmy winner had something to say to writers in the building, "Hire me!" She joked about begging the writers for a job on social media. Ha!
“Atlanta” star Brian Tyree Henry snapped it up with Writers Guild Award nominee Amber Ruffin (“Late Night with Seth Meyers”) before hitting the stage to present and accept the show’s awards.
Backstage, Brian celebrated the FX series' win alongside writer/producer Paul Simms.
FENCES stars Stephen Henderson and Russell Hornsby were all smiles on the carpet before the awards ceremony.
"This Is Us" won the Best Episodic Drama Award for "The Trip" episode written by Vera Herbert. Congrats!
