A receipt from Busboys and Poets went viral after a white man left a black waitress a $450 tip. Now, the man who left the tip is speaking out and explaining why he did it.
Jason White is a Trump supporter, so he was in Washington D.C. to witness Donald Trump get sworn in as the 45th president. During his time in the capitol, Jason and two of his friends stopped by iconic eatery Busboys and Poets, a restaurant known for promoting social justice.
According to the Washington Post, Jason walked in with his red “Make America Great Again” cap, but soon realized he stuck out like a sore thumb with all the black heritage artwork covering the walls. He eventually took it off. Their waitress, 25-year-old Rosalynd Harris, greeted them with a warm smile and happily chatted with them. She says her mood was more jovial than usual because she had just come from the Women's March.
Jason is a dentist and complimented Rosalynd on her smile as they conversed. When it was time to leave, Jason left her a $450 tip on a $72.60 bill along with a note that read,

“We may come from different cultures and may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people. Not race. Not gender. Just American. God Bless!”
We get it. And it's noble.
The 37-year-old dentist, who has been a Trump supporter since the beginning, told the Post the significance of the $450 was a nod to Trump becoming the 45th president. Hmph. After witnessing the presidential inauguration and the Women’s March the following day, Jason said he felt inspired. He said he hopes his act of kindness is a step toward everyone uniting and moving forward together.
“As I sat there, I thought about the entire weekend and I thought, ‘I don’t know her, she doesn’t know me, but if most Americans have a preconceived perception about people, then we’re never going to get better,’” he said.
Well, the gesture was nice of him. BUT, the fact that he defends someone who is racist and openly sexist MAY negate his gesture. Just sayin’.
