Beyonce LEADS The Pack In NAACP Image Awards Nominations, Solange Lands 5 Noms, Nate Parker & Donald Glover Take Over Film & Television Categories

Beyonce is having one hell of a year. She leads the pack in NAACP Image Awards nominations. Her sister Solange pulls in 5 nominations. Meanwhile, Nate Parker and Donald Glover take over the film and television categories. More inside….

Queen Bey does it again.

After taking over the top number of GRAMMY nominations, Beyonce leads the pack for the 48th Annual NAACP Image Awards, nabbing seven nominations. She’s in the running for Entertainer of the Year, Outstanding Female Artist, Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration, Outstanding Music Video, two nominations in the Outstanding Song-Contemporary category and Outstanding Album for her LEMONADE LP.

This year there’s a friendly sisterly rivalry.

Bey’s younger sister Solange received five nominations, including Outstanding Female Artist, Outstanding Music Video, and Best Album for her No. 1 album A Seat At The Table.

Birth of a Nation star/producer/director Nate Parker swept up three nominations in the film categories, including Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture, Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture (Film), and Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture – (Film). The slave revolt film also nabbed a few nominations, including Best Picture nomination, along with Fences, Hidden Figures, Loving and Moonlight.

“Atlanta” star Donald Glover (who recently won a Critic's Choice Award) scored three nominations in the television categories, including Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series.

Viola Davis, Regina King, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Chance the Rapper are all in the running against Beyonce for Entertainer of the Year.

HBO’s “Insecure” was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series and Issa Rae (who was recently nominated for her first Golden Globe) is in the running for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series against Niecy Nash, Tracee Ellis Ross, Uzo Aduba and Keesha Sharp. Meanwhile, Issa’s co-star Yvonne Orji is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Meanwhile, your fave television obsessions, “Empire,” “Power,” “Queen Sugar,” “This Is Us,” and “Underground" are nominated in the Outstanding Drama Series category.
