Mary J. Blige is breaking her silence about her messy divorce with her estranged husband/former manager Kendu Isaacs. More inside…

Mary J. Blige has been in the headlines recently over her messy divorce with her estranged husband/former manager Kendu Isaacs.

The Grammy Award winner has remained quiet about the bitter split in the media, but she subliminally addressed it during her shows. As she travels on her joint tour with Maxwell, before starting her set, she would flash headlines about her breakup before singing her heart out to the crowd.

Now, she’s ready to address it.

The R&B queen sat down with Robin Roberts for an interview on “Good Morning America” to open up about the failed relationship. Mary said respect played a huge role in their uncoupling. After she kept demanding respect from Kendu and he wouldn’t comply, she decided she was done.

"The breaking point was when I kept asking over and over and over again for respect and to be respected," Mary shared. "And it just seemed like I was beating a dead horse and it seemed like I was talking to a wall. I just wasn't getting it back so if I can't get respect in the relationship, then I have to move on and save myself. That was the point where I was like, 'I'm done. I just can't do it anymore.'"

So how is she holding up? The 45-year-old singer said it’s hard, but she’s hanging in there.

"My heart is OK, I'm hanging in there. I mean, no one wants to go through this and this is hard. I'm hanging in there."

Mary and Kendu had been married for 12 years.  After they decided to call it quits, Kendu felt he should be paid $129,000 a MONTH in spousal support. Pshh…

The Queen of Hip Hop Soul offered up some advice to other women who may be going through something similar to her situation.

"My message to those women that are going through the same thing that I'm going through or a similar situation is that you cannot rely on people to handle your business," Blige said. "You have to handle your business. You have to take responsibility and stay on top of it because things like this will happen if you don't."

She continued, "Surround yourself with good people and, of course, you need people that will help you, but they can't do everything for you," she added. "You have to be in mix of it."

So TRUE. Always be in the know when it comes to your business.

Later, Mary hit the stage for an emotional performance of her new track “Thick Of It”:
