Rihanna & Her PUMA Creepers Jumped Yeezy To Nab “Shoe Of The Year” 2016 + Nas, Simone Biles Floss Their Power For EBONY

Rihanna’s PUMA Creepers took over the shoe industry this year and now she’s being honored with the “Shoe of the Year” award. Find out what she said about the honor, plus peep Nas and Simone Biles on the cover of EBONY magazine’s Power 100 issue inside….

That Rihanna reign just won’t let up!

RiRi has been killing the fashion game with her PUMA shoes and clothing collections. And folks are taking notice.

The “Work” singer will receive the 2016 Shoe of the Year Award at the 30th annual Footwear News Achievement Awards in NYC on November 29th. It was a no brainer when it came time for Footwear News to choose who would receive this year’s award as her PUMA Creeper sneaker was the ONLY sneaker on their radar. Nice!

“In my wildest dreams, I never would have imagined an honor like Shoe of the Year,” the Grammy winner told FN. “It means so much to me to make a mark like this in the shoe and sneaker industry and to have so many people share my love for the Creeper.”

Rihanna fans wasted NO time to scoop up her new sneakers when she released them to the masses. In fact, it only took 3 hours for her sneakers to sell out when they debuted last fall.

The coveted sneaker award has only been awarded three times. Last year, Kanye West copped the award for his highly popular Yeezy Boost 350 sneakers and in 2014, tennis star Stan Smith was honored for his signature shoe with Adidas.

Since the Creeper sneaker dropped, Rih and PUMA have released faux fur slides (that the Bajan beauty loves) and a laceless trainer. Signs that Rihanna has no plans on slowing down her fashion empire.

Congrats!

On the magazine front...

Power to the people!

EBONY magazine is showering a few YBF stars with praise for their remarkable achievements in their respective industries.

Hip Hop legend and activist Nas, Olympic gold gymnast Simone Biles, award winning directress Ava DuVernay and Oscar winner John Legend each landed their own cover for EBONY’s Power 100 issue.

This year’s theme is “power in numbers” that will reflect how important it is to have YBF influencers to inspire the next generation of power players.

EBONY editor-in-chief Kyra Kyles explained why they chose Nas, Simon, Ava and John to cover the issue:

“We feature Nas who is employing brown people to tell the true story of hip-hop in the Get Down and Ava DuVernay, giving voice to the voiceless through her mass incarceration documentary, 13th. John Legend who has been compelled to document the realities of Black Wall Street and Simone Biles, making history and inspiring other little brown girls to believe in themselves. Power is nothing if it is not shared.”

The top 100 most influential Black leaders in the country are being recognized for their noteworthy accomplishments over the past year. The list of outstanding leaders highlights individuals from a variety of fields, including business, medicine, sports, media, religion, the creative arts and more.

Also landing on the list are Beyoncé, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, funnyman Kevin Hart, tennis champion Serena Williams, soulful songstress Solange, rapper Chance The Rapper, NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony, Web-turned-television star Issa Rae, and President of the NIKE brand Trevor Edwards.

The Power 100 list will appear in the December issue of EBONY, set to hit newsstands the first week in December.

Congrats to all the YBF gamechangers!
