The gun violence in Chicago has taken another victim.  This time, it is new Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade's first cousin Nykea Aldridge who was simply pushing her child in a stroller.  Full story inside....

In Chicago's southside Parkway Gardens neighborhood on Friday, 32-year-old Nykea Aldridge was pushing a stroller when two men approached her shot the man she was with.  The shooters missed the man, but struck her in her arm and head.  She was not the intended target.

Nykea was walking from the Dulles School of Excellence around 3:30 p.m.when the shooting occurred.  She was taken to Stroger hospital and pronounced dead on the scene.  The baby, thankfully, is unharmed and is now in the custody of family.

ABC News Chicago reports:

Deputy Chief James Jones said the altercation between the men had nothing to do with [Nykea].

...

Jones said two people are being questioned by the police about the shooting, and several other people in the vicinity were interviewed. Police are currently working to hash out specifics and verify stories, he said.

Dwyane Wade's mother, Pastor Jolinda Wade, appeared on the local ABC news station Friday evening while holding her sobbing sister, Nykea's mother.  Jolinda told media:

"Just sat up on a panel yesterday, The Undefeated, talking about the violence that's going on within our city of Chicago, never knowing that the next day we would be the ones that would be actually living and experiencing it."

"We're still going to try and help these people to transform their minds and give them a different direction, so this thing won't keep happening," she said. "We're still going to help empower people like the one who senselessly shot my niece in the head."

Dwyane spoke on ESPN's 'The Undefeated' panel yesterday at a Chicago YMCA as he conferenced in from Miami. He was not in town today, but he has spoken out about the tragedy saying:

Here's more about the panel that occurred on Thursday, also featuring First Lady Michelle Obama's brother Craig Robinson, Milwaukee Bucks star and Chicago native Jabari Parker, Team USA track gold medalist Kristi Castlin and more:

The Chicago Bulls organization put out an official statement saying:

The entire Chicago Bulls organization is deeply saddened by the news of Dwyane Wade’s cousin, Nykea Aldridge. We send our deepest condolences to the entire Wade family during this difficult time.

Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to the Wade family.
