FOX News host Bill O’Reilly responds to First Lady Michelle Obama’s DNC speech saying slaves who built the White House were treated decent by the government. After his ridiculous comments, Broadway star Audra McDonald schooled him on the realities of slavery. Get it all inside….
The political petty (and ignorant comments) continue!
First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a flawless speech on Monday’s opening evening of the Democratic National Convention. One line that resonated with many and has made headlines is this: “I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves."
FOX news host Bill O’Reilly decided he would respond to FLOTUS’ remark during his “Tip of the Day” segment. While he did admit slaves did in fact "help" with the construction of the White House (this is a fact), he noted that the slaves were well taken care of by their slave masters. He said,"Slaves that worked there were well-fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government, which stopped hiring slave labor in 1802."
But...the White House was built before 1802. And what was the purpose of that undermining statement in the first place? To undermine FLOTUS and her speech in the ONLY way he knew how? When you're as flawless as she is, people start to grasp at straws. Maybe you shouldn't be a political host if you have to grasp at straws to articulate a point.
Check it below:
Decent lodging? Well-fed? Is he serious? How can you say anything good about people who were forced to work for ZERO PAY and in unimaginable conditions? Not to mention they didn't choose, themselves, to work there in the first place.
Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, who’s currently pregnant, hit up Twitter to give Bill a much needed black history lesson about what slavery was really like for the thousands of black enslaved men, women and children.

Dear Bill O'Reilly...Maybe now you'll get why people are having a hard time with your description of the slaves 'accommodations'.

ALL.OF.THIS.
Let's stop promoting the revisionist history of slavery and the sugar coating of a VERY well documented horrific time in our history.
