Lupita Nyong’o and Misty Copeland served springtime fab at Variety’s Power of Women luncheon to celebrate their new covers. Meanwhile, Yara Shahidi and Jurnee Smollett Bell were all about women empowerment at the Women In The World Summit. Pics inside….
Springtime fresh!
Bold colors, florals and that perfect skin. Oscar winner Lupita Nygong’o sure knows how to make her presence known on a red carpet.
The “Eclipsed” star made a fabulous stop at Variety's Power Of Women luncheon held at Cipriani Midtown in NYC yesterday. She, along with Misty Copeland and a few others, were being honored for their philanthropic efforts and celebrated for their new Variety magazine covers.
The Kenyan beauty trekked down the carpet in a neon green Dolce Gabbana wool mini dress paired with coral pumps for a fun and flirty look.
This pink coat is everything!
During her acceptance speech, the upcoming Jungle Book and Queen of Katwe actress opened up about her work with Mother Health International in Uganda, which supports pregnant women in areas of extreme poverty and disaster. She said,
"I've been thinking about the ways in which it is so vital for women to help other women. To support other women. To lift one another up. We are often encouraged or even taught to bring each other down; to fight one another. We are taught that we can only survive in this world if there are no other viable women near us. But I've also been thinking about all the ways that women's bodies are so often under attack, in this very moment, all over the world. How do we fight against all that pain? How do we turn that pain into power?"
Love her.
“Eclipsed” playwright Danai Gurira stepped out to support her friend and Broadway co-worker modeling a cute textured frock. She was tapped to present Lupita with her award.
YAS!
Prima ballerina and honoree Misty Copeland was also all about the floral fab at the luncheon. The 33-year-old dancer, who is the spokeswoman for Project Plié, stepped out to be honored by the magazine for her philanthropic efforts.
During her acceptance speech, she talked about the importance of representations of minorities in the dance world and how she hopes to create change. She said,
"From my own experience, I learned there is a lack of opportunity for minority dancers and as a result, a lack of diversity in the top levels of the ballet world. ... I am reminded by families and children that I meet every day that representation matters. That being able to see yourself or seeing someone that looks like you on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House matters."
“Underground” actress Jurnee Smollett Bell was in the mix to join in on the women empowerment celebration.
“TODAY” show hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, who recently celebrated the 8th anniversary for their show, were all smiles at the event.
Congrats to the ladies, including Megyn Kelly, Vera Wang and Julianne Moore who also nabbed covers of their own! You can check out Lupita and Misty's covers HERE.
