Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Gina Prince-Bythewood are reuniting for a new drama titled An Untamed State. Meanwhile, fresh face actor Parker Sawyers has landed the male lead in NBC pilot “Miranda’s Rights.” Deets inside….

Beyond The Lights star and writer/director Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Gina Prince-Bythewood will be teaming up again for a new project.

According to Deadline, Gina will direct and Gugu will star in An Untamed State, an adaptation of Roxane Gay‘s debut novel that the director will co-write (the screenplay) with the author for Fox Searchlight.

Below is a synopsis of the upcoming film:

The novel tells the powerful, unflinching story of a Haitian-American woman kidnapped for ransom in front of her husband and child. The novel explores the privilege that made her a target and the strength she must draw on to survive and reclaim her life.

The film will be produced by Michael De Luca through his Michael De Luca Productions company with Gina, adding Mindy Schultheis and Michael Hanel as executive producers.

Hmm…will you be watching?

Upcoming Southside With You star Parker Sawyers, who plays a young Barack Obama in the huge Sundance hit, just copped a new gig. The young actor landed the male lead role in the NBC legal drama pilot “Miranda’s Rights,” starring opposite Australian actress Rebecca Breeds.

#Booked!

Deadline reports:

“Miranda’s Rights” is a one-hour legal soap about an idealistic group of lawyers — Young Law Group — who not only work together but live together at their start-up firm. It centers on Miranda Coale (Breeds), a pretty and smart attorney plagued for the past six years by a youthful mistake — a much-publicized and scandalous affair in her early 20s with a married state Senator which changed the course of her life forever.

Sawyers will play Tanner, a charming and confident attorney and one of the founders of YLG. He’s also Miranda’s ex, the one she dumped to take up with the married senator. Now teamed with four other lawyers, all partners at a start-up law firm, he offers Miranda a job, only to ruffle the feathers of Lana, another attorney, also his fiancée.

Sounds like "Melrose Place" meets "L.A. Law."

The new series will be directed by Jennifer Getzinger, written and co-executive produced by Katie Lovejoy, and executive produced by John Glenn. If NBC execs approve the series, it will likely be ordered for the 2016/2017 television season.

You can catch Parker, along with Tika Sumpter, in Southside With You when it hits theaters later this summer.
