Yesterday, everyone had lots to say about the re-emergence of the upcoming Nina biopic.  Now, in addition to the newly unveiled poster and release date, the trailer is out.  Get it inside, plus big movie news from Idris Elba and the Boyz In The Hood roster....

This new Nina biopic, with Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone, is ruffling many feathers.  Now, the trailer is here.

Written and directed by Cynthia Mort, the film stars Zoe Saldana (Nina Simone) and David Oyelowo (Clifton Henderson).  While the story and content of the biopic appear to be of substance, it's the fact that Zoe -- who doesn't necessarily possess the physical features that made Nina Simone exactly who she was -- is playing Ms. Simone.  From the makeup to the facial features, folks are taking issue.

Here's the synopsis:

She was one of the century's most extraordinary talents, a 15-time Grammy nominee and Grammy Hall of Fame Recipient; her mesmerizing songs and passionate politics combined to make her the unforgettable Nina Simone (Zoe Saldana). But fame and fortune came with a price, and her later years were riddled with depression, alcohol abuse and isolation. Rediscovering the meaning of her life and work took courage, strength and one true friend: Clifton Henderson (David Oyelowo), the man who started out as her assistant and eventually became her loyal manager. With Clifton's encouragement, the "high priestess of soul" began a courageous journey back to her music ... and, eventually, herself.

Check out the first trailer below and speak on it in the comments:

NINA will be released in theaters, VOD and Digital HD on April 22, 2016.

Idris Elba stays working.  And we love it!

Next up for the Spirit Award winner, he'll be playing a gunslinger opposite villain Matthew McConaughey, in an upcoming Stephen King adaptation of Dark Tower.

Idris will be playing Roland Deschain, a official with a gun (which is always kinda sexy) who is chasing the 'Man In Black' played by Matthew.

Interestingly, he's breaking racial barriers with this role.  Deadline reports:

Back when Deadline first revealed this was in the works, there was much debate among commenters over whether Elba was right to play the protagonist, who in the books is a blue-eyed gunslinger. So this is similar to the time that Angelina Jolie won the lead role in the action hit Salt, after Tom Cruise fell out, or any number of times where gender or color was tossed by the wayside and the best actor chosen, in the minds of the director and producers and studio. The film’s being made by Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital.

Could this flick be another precursor to Big 'Dris becoming the next James Bond?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there's a diversity casting boom going on in Tinseltown, so expect tons more roles being given to black and brown actors.  It's about time those actors who are equally (and often times more) qualified get their shine.

Finally, it was a family reunion of sorts on the campus of Morehouse last night:

Boyz In the Hood star Cuba Gooding Jr. and the film's director John Singleton spoke on a panel last night about "The People vs. O.J." which Cuba is currently killing it in.

The FX star, who plays O.J. Simpson himself, laughed it up with his longtime friend 25 years after the release of their classic film.  25 years?!

The fellas also hosted a private screening of the newest episode of the "American Crime Story" show.  Nice!
