Two events went down in L.A. last night that brought out Teyonah Parris, Terrence J, Lenny Kravitz, Zoe Kravitz, Lisa Bonet and many more. Pics and deets inside….
Chi-raq starlet and honoree Teyonah Parris stepped out looking amazing last night at the 7th Annual African American Film Critics Association Awards held at Hollywood’s Taglyan Complex.
The fabulous actress owned the carpet in a cobalt blue jumpsuit by Gauri & Nainika, Thomas Wylde shoes and she accessorized her look with an Emm Kuo clutch, along with Kayador Bowery and Traci Lynn jewels.
TV personality-turned-actor/producer Terrence J, who’s gearing up for the release of his new movie The Perfect Match, came out to celebrate black excellence. TJ was tapped to co-host the event.
“black•ish” cutie and presenter Miles Brown as all smiles on the carpet. You can get your laugh on with Miles and the rest of the “black•ish” cast on Wednesdays at 9:30pm EST on ABC.
Famed film director and honoree John Singleton was presented with the 2016 AAFCA Legacy Award presented by Courtney B. Vance.
During his acceptance speech, John talked about how mainstream inclusion isn’t that important in the long run and how black people are winning despite exclusion. He touched on the #OscarsSoWhite controversy saying,
“We’ve been fighting for inclusion ever since the chains have been put on. Sometimes when you make such an emphasis of inclusion you lose sight of the big picture, you lose sight of what the big end game is. In terms of pop culture in this country, we've already won the end game. It doesn’t matter if a certain organization, whether it's the Academy, or another organization excludes our black artists. We know that what we do no matter what is going to propagate over time. It’s going to change not only our own people but everybody else.”
We agree!
While his wife Angela Bassett campaigns for Hillary Clinton in South Carolina, “The People vs. O.J. Simpson” star and presenter Courtney B. Vance hit the red carpet dolo before presenting an award to John.
Well here's a surprise. Comedian/actor Tommy Davidson stepped out to celebrate his peers. He will be bringing the laughs at an upcoming comedy show at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, IN on Valentine’s Day.
"Entertainment Tonight" correspondent Nischelle Turner was tapped to co-host the event alongside Terrence J.
Book of Negros star and presenter Lou Gossett Jr. and his wife brought the coupledom fab before heading inside.
Producer Tomica Woods-Wright, ex-wife of late rapper Eazy E, rocked a lace-trimmed LBD for the festivities.
“The Mindy Project” actress Xosha Roquemore and Straight Outta Compton actor Keith Stanfield were tapped to present awards during the ceremony.
