National CARES Mentoring Movement hosted its “For the Love Of Our Children Gala” in NYC last night, which doubled as a birthday celebration for the organization’s founder, Susan Taylor. The former Essence magazine Editor-in-Chief was celebrating a monumental birthday: 70 years young. And looking fabulous while doing so.
TVOne host Roland Martin came out to party with a purpose and to celebrate with Susan Taylor. The event, hosted by Lee Daniels, will help to raise critical funding that will support the expansion of the organization’s transformational group-mentoring programs.
BET CEO Debra Leecame out to support.
Susan's husband Khephra Burns, President of the National Urban League Marc Morial, author/professor Michael Eric Dyson and his wife Marcia Dyson and Stephanie Nellons-Paige were all in attendance to celebrate with Susan.
"TODAY" show anchor Tamron Hall lit up the carpet in a sparkly teal Dolce & Gabbana number.
"CBS This Morning" host Gayle King stepped out after spending several days inside due to the snow.

Rev. Al Sharpton popped up at the event and made his rounds snapping flicks with B. Smith, her husband Dan and the birthday girl.
Group shot! Rev. Sharpton, legendary actor and social activist Harry Belafonte, Debra Lee, Roland Martin and Michael Eric Dyson were all smiles for a photo-op.
Debra Lee ran into writers Michaela Angela Davis and Harriette Cole during the event.
YBF actress Tasha Smith's twin sister Sidra Smith also came out to support and party.
BET's President of Programming Stephen Hill and author Terry McMillan were thinking alike, both wearing gray for the festivities.
Then, Susan was presented with a six-tiered gold cake. It was a total celebration as the event raised over $1 million! Congrats!
