Jada Pinkett Smith responds to Janet “Aunt Viv” Hubert after she called Jada out on boycotting the Oscars. Hear her response and find out what DOPE star Kiersey Clemons is mad about inside….
Jada Pinkett Smith is responding to Janet Hubert, the original Aunt Viv from "Fresh Prince of Bel Air," after Janet fired shots at her (and Will) for boycotting this year’s 88th Academy Awards ceremony over the lack of diversity.
Entertainment Tonight photogs caught up with Jada as she made her way through an airport to ask her how she felt about Janet’s comments. You’ll recall Janet slammed Jada in a video she posted to her Facebook account saying,
"I find it ironic that somebody who has made their living and has made millions and millions of dollars from the very people that you’re talking about boycotting just because you didn’t get a nomination...? That’s not the way life works."
Well, here’s Jada’s response:
"Considering that Alabama had its highest recruitment for the KKK for Martin Luther King's birthday, I hope that we as African-Americans can find a way to get along and step together.”
FYI—There were reports a Ku Klux Klan chapter in Mobile, Alabame sent out recruitment flyers to residents over MLK weekend.
She then said explained further that her Oscar boycott was about more than JUST the Oscars. She said,
"This whole Oscar controversy isn't really about the Oscars. Really, in my plea to ask all communities and people of color to take back our power is so that we can use it in all sectors of our community, and right now, specifically with African-American people, we have some very serious issues that I think we as a people have to move together on. I'm hoping we can find ways to step together in this instead of finding ways to fight each other. I got love for everybody."

Recently, Jada also thanked President Cheryl Boone Isaacs and the Academy for their quick response and said she was looking forward to the future.

DOPE star Kiersey Clemons is joining in on the Oscar controversy and she’s mad. She’s real “f*cking mad,” but NOT at the Oscars. She’s pissed at the studios because she feels THEY are the reasons people of color aren’t nominated for the Oscars. She said, “I’m f*cking mad and I’m not mad at the Oscars, I’m mad at the studios because they’re the reasons we’re not even nominated. We’re not in the f*cking movies, so how can you be nominated for something you didn’t get a chance to be in?”
