Clearly, we weren't the only ones squealing and bookmarking TheBarbieCollection.com yesterday when news broke that Ava DuVernay's BARBIE would actually be sold by Mattel today. The #AvaBarbie sold out in minutes! Deets inside...
Y'all, Golden Globe-nominated director Ava DuVernay's BARBIE actually went up for sale!
Back in April, BARBIE's parent company Mattel announced that the company would be honoring six female "Sheroes" with mini-me dolls created in their likenesses. One of the honorees was Selma director Ava DuVernay. It's much deserved as the outspoken directress became the first black female to direct a film nominated for a Best Picture Oscar (Selma), first black woman to earn a Golden Globe nomination in the directing category, as well as the first black woman to win the Best Director prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
While the special barbies were all one-of-a-kind and made strictly to be auctioned off at a charity of the honorees' choosing, fans demanded the Ava Barbie also be sold to the masses. Mattel listened.
Yesterday, the YBF director announced that the BARBIE was coming to the public, just in time for the Holidays:

The APPLE ad campaign director also revealed she would be giving all the mula to charity:
All my proceeds from #AvaBarbie will be sent from @Mattel to @ColorOfChange + @WitnessOrg. A fun way to support. xo!
Of course, everyone and their grandmother (literally) went online to TheBarbieCollection.com at 10AM PST to get first dibs. Unfortunately, it sold out in less than 20 minutes! Amazon will be selling the dolls later today.
@Luvvie Sorry for the delay! Dolls on The Barbie Collection sold out, but more will be available from Amazon later today

Oh well, here's to hoping Mattel restocks faster than Walmart does those Patti Pies....
