Shonda Rhimes and Oprah, two incredibly talented and successful black women, say publicly and PROUDLY they do NOT want to get married. Oh? Find out their reasons and what else they said about tying the knot inside….

These days, it seems if you’re a young woman trying to make a name for yourself and kickstart your career, other things like becoming a wife and mother MAY get put on the back burner, whether it's for a certain amount of time or forever.

But what if you never wanted to get married in the first place?

It’s almost taboo for a woman to say so. And once you hit a certain age, marriage (and kids) seem to always be the topic of discussion. Well, for #TGIT creator Shonda Rhimes, marriage has never been in her playbook.  And she's spilling why.

The 45-year-old writer and mother-of-three sat down with media mogul Oprah for a candid interview on OWN's "SuperSoul Sunday” where she strongly declared, "I don't want to get married."

We can't help but respect and live her transparency and powerful words to follow.

Shonda revealed:

“[It] feels obvious and maybe silly or something to people who are married or people who are older, people who have been through it. But if you're a woman in your thirties or forties, that's a big deal. Everybody's asking you all the time if it's going to happen ... There's a huge amount of pressure."

It’s interesting to note, Shonda (who is a mom) said she always wanted to become a mother, but marriage was never something she desired. She spilled,

"I'm one of those people, since I was 5, I could tell you I was going to have kids. I could tell you I was going to have three. I could tell you they were going to be girls," she says. But I have never wanted to get married. I never played bride. I was never interested. I don't know what it is; I never wanted to get married."

She's definitely is going against the grain, but don’t get it twisted. Chick still gets her groove on. She said she loves dating ad having boyfriends, but she’ll pass on having a man in her house everyday.

"I love having boyfriends. I love dating. I do not want a husband in my house."

Lady O then goes on to reveal why she never got married. We all know she has been in a long-term relationship with her significant other Stedman.  We learned that at one point, she did want to trek down the aisle.  She said:

"I don't know if I've ever said this publicly, but I really wanted to be wanted to be married. I wanted Stedman to want to marry me.”

In fact, Oprah and Stedman were once set to be married (back in 1993), but when it was time to get ready to tie the knot, Oprah got cold feet. She explained,

"The moment he asked me to marry him I was, like... 'Now I actually have to get married?' I was supposed to do a book at the same time and the wedding and the book were happening around the same time. We were on our way from the book party and Stedman said he did not want to have his wedding disturbed by all these people asking me about the book (which I ended up not doing)," Oprah says. "I said, 'OK. All right. So he said, 'We should just postpone this wedding. I said, 'OK.' And that was it. We have never discussed it again."

Lady O soon realized marriage just wasn’t for her.

So ladies, we have to ask, do YOU want to get married? Is purposely living a non married life becoming the new norm....or are more women now simply vocalizing how they REALLY feel?
