Well look who just stepped into the acting ring. LA Lakers star and Iggy Azeala's fiancé Nick Young is about to be a sitcom star, and we've got a first look at his new project alongside Tami Roman and more inside...
Swaggy P is bringing some of his on-court swag to a tv screen near you.
In a new sitcom/dramedy being shopped around called "The Assist," "Basketball Wive: LA" star Tami Roman is headed back to scripted television to play Nick's on-screen publicist.
The show is described as a "fish-out-of-water comedy" from executive producer Ernest Dukes. It also stars acting newcomer Paris Phillips and R&B songstress Brooke Valentine (remember her?!). The plot centers on a charismatic street-smart girl from Brooklyn (Phillips) who gets a once in a lifetime opportunity to work for an NBA superstar (Young) after a chance encounter.
Oh, and Nick's on-screen girlfriend (Valentine) is trying to become a "Basketball Housewife". Hmph.
Shamicka Lawrence, who serves as a producer, said about the show, "...It gives you that vibe of the old school back in the day shows. We haven't had a really good sitcom since the Martin show and this is something people can enjoy like the Martin show."
Nick Young on Becoming An Actor: "It's a different element that I wanted to try. Basketball only lasts for so long so I wanted to branch out and see what else I could do. I don't want to be [limited] to one category."
Tami Roman on "The Assist": "I wanted to do this project because I read the script and we haven't had any really good scripted programming in a long time, everything is reality TV. Although I've made several checks in that genre, I'm very excited to return back to scripted TV."
