Watch out ladies! The men came to play too. Get into some of the men fashions that hit the pink carpet at the Met Gala inside...
Funky printed suits, sequins, leather, and even a thobe! The fellas went all out for this year's Camp theme at the 2019 Metropolitan Museum of Art's gala.
Usually, the fellas don't do too much when it comes to Met costumes. We get a few. But this year, it seems more fellas hopped on the Camp theme and had some fun with their ensembles.
We def didn't expect LGBTQ+ icon RuPaul to disappoint. And he pushed through with drama, sequin, feathers and more. We thought the EMMY winning television host would show up in drag. However, he decided to rock this pink Zaldy sequined suit with zebra stripes and neon vinyl, topped with an ostrich feathered zebra mane.
Werk! *In our RuPaul voice*
The "RuPaul Drag Race" host was joined on the carpet by his husband Georges LeBar.
Fun Fact: This was RuPaul's first time attending the Met.
Fashion designer Dapper Dan made his first appearance at the Met Gala last night. And he brought several of his muses with him. He did eight looks for his Met Gala debut, including his own.
For the ladies, he created works of art for Regina Hall, Bevy Smith, Ashley Graham, and Karlie Kross. For the fellas, he was the mastermind behind "Power" star Omari Hardwick, rapper 21 Savage's suits. He also designed French Montana's ensemble. Everyone was in Gucci.
The legendary Harlem designer - who has a partnership with Gucci - defended wearing the brand following the "black face" controversy. Folks were calling to boycott the brand. However, Dapper Dan is not down with cancel culture. In an interview with Elle, he responded to people who feel like he's a "sell out."
"People in the community are like, 'Man, leave them! Leave Gucci and all this stuff.' They don't understand. Until I make them understand the beauty of this, the significance of this, the importance of this, I can't go anywhere."
"You only see me walking, but you know who's walking behind me? Nelson Mendela's walking behind me, Jackie Robinson's walking behind me, Martin Luther King, all of those people are behind me," he continued. "All those people who've suffered the slings and arrows of oppression in those difficult moments. But you know what they all have in common and what people don't understand? I am here for a purpose. Nelson Mendela, you name them all, they all had to get that same thing which is an education, information, you know? Being a partner of Gucci opens up a whole world. A whole world of education. Me being here, navigating like this here, lets them know, "This is important to us, this cannot do." I don't know this generation, these grass-rooters. They're easy to lead because they do not read.
"The African American brands that have come about all collapsed for a lack of knowledge. Gucci has afforded me an opportunity to function on this level for the first time. I know how to sell to blacks, I know how to be black, I know how to be in the black community. Gucci afforded me the opportunity to go global black. This is a global blackness. You have to connect this to something that's larger than what's going on now. This is our opportunity to be reflected internationally, to have a presence. Not just here, in America, but an international presence. This thing with Gucci is so big. Gucci has offered us a platform to say, "Come on in!"
There you have it.
French Montana hit the carpet in a Gucci thobe, looking like a North African prince. The Morrocan born rapper paid homage to his roots, celebrating the start of Ramadan, whick kicked off May 5th. "CHEIK MONTANA RAMADAN MUBARAK," he captioned on Instagram.
"Empire" & "Star" creator Lee Daniels made his way down the carpet in leopard print alongside award winning director Ava DuVernay - who stunned in custom Prada. Lee said he didn't get to party like he wanted since he's working, but he def had a good time during the time he was there.
"The Daily Show" host Trevor Noah didn't put any effort into his Met Gala look. Maybe he's pulling a Frank Ocean.
