Lauren London and Nipsey Hussle are spilling deets about California Love in their new GQ piece. Go inside to learn more about the usually private couple inside...
Lovebirds Lauren London and Nipsey Hussle have been dating since 2013 and they've seemingly kept their love fest low key. Now, the couple is opening up about their California Love in GQ magazine's 2019 Power Couple issue.
Shot in the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles, the photoshoot flicks were first thought to be engagement photos, but Nipsey cleared that up with the quickness. Catch up HERE in case you missed.
In their GQ profile, we learned the California natives started dating like most millennials these days: The Internet!
The ATL actress shared while filming "The Game" for BET in 2013, she wanted to buy her castmates copies of Nipsey's mixtape, Crenshaw, as a wrap present. The mixtape was being sold for $100 for marketing purposes.
"It was a scarcity model. Jay-Z bought a few copies, et cetera," Nipsey shared with the magazine.
After copping the mixtapes, Lauren began following Nipsey on Instgram and then it happened. The rapper "slid into her DMs" and the rest is history.
Since then, they have been all wrapped up in love (give or take a possible breakup/PR stunt). In 2016, they welcomed a son named Kross, joining Lauren's other son Cameron Carter, whom she shares with rapper Lil Wayne.
Right before finding out she was pregnant with their child, Lauren was putting in work to build her career. She revealed she auditioned to play Faith Evans in Notorious, but she didn't land the role.
“I talked to Faith, Puff, everybody. It just came down that the director didn't believe me as Faith," Lauren recalled.
However, that didn't stop her. She then started gearing up for her "dream role" in John Singleton's FX series "Snowfall." Apparently, Singleton specifically chose her for a role, she nabbed it, shot the pilot, and then BOOM, she got pregnant.
“Lauren was handpicked by John Singleton to do Snowfall. She read, got the part, shot the pilot...did stunts...this was her dream role,” the Grammy nominated rapper said. “And then she got pregnant with our son. That was a really hard decision for her to make.” Lauren decided she'd rather take care of her family and passed on the role, which she dubbed as "one of the toughest decision of my career by far,” especially after the series became a huge hit.
“Do I choose my soul or myself?” Lauren said. “I went with my soul.”
“I didn't put any pressure on her for whatever decision she wanted to make,” Nipsey said. “I learned then that what she believes in, she really believes in.”
No regrets though. She seems to be happily in love with her man.
Nipsey's star power is continuing to grow. His 2018 album, Victory Lap, earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album of the Year. Warner Music Group hosted a party to celebrate his nomination where he rubbed elbows with Jay Z and performed his new music.
“I read every review. But I never wanted to seek validation by awards or anything controlled by politics,” he said. “The people who know, know.”
