In extremely sad news, it's been confirmed that "Martin" star Tommy Ford has died.  Full story below...

Earlier today, unconfirmed reports circulated saying Thomas "Tommy" Mikal Ford passed away. We quickly learned the reports were premature, but he was indeed in grave health. 

Just minutes ago, credible reports stated that while he was previously fighting for his life, he has now passed away.  TMZ reports the 52-year-old actor and father of at least two children "passed away Wednesday in an Atlanta hospital surrounded by family and friends."

Tommy's rep Jay Mathis confirmed his time of death:

This evening at 4:50PM surrounded by family and close friends @BigTommyFord transitioned from this life to life eternal. #tommyford#RIP

The cause of death reportedly stems from an aneurysm in his stomach that ruptured. He had knee replacement surgery just two weeks ago and had been keeping his fans up to date about his recovery on his Instagram page.

Tommy starred as Martin Lawrence's best friend during all five seasons of the classic 90's sitcom.  And became a pop culture staple due to his hilarious role even to this day. He has since been working in movies, four seasons on TV One's hit show, "Who's Got Jokes" hosted by Bill Bellamy, and co-starred in more than 10 tv shows and movies in 2016 alone (including Brandy's "Zoe Ever After").  He also has been conducting acting workshops for aspiring artists.

 

To all family and friends of Tommy Ford. We would like to inform everyone that our brother passed away today October 12, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Please keep his family in your prayers as they go through this challenging time. He was so dearly loved by so many and for that lets all be grateful for a life well served.

While he hasn’t gotten any calls to do so (yet), he said “when it does happen, I'll be great at it.” And we agree.

The newlywed added, "It's gonna happen when it's supposed to. I'm not rushing it. ... It'll be something else to say that I've done in my career, and when that time comes, I'll be ready."

Hmm….do you think he could top Chris Rock’s performance from last year’s Academy Awards?

The entire cast is down for it.  We’re looking for a studio, then it will be 100 percent. But, we are in the process of making it happen.”

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson trekked it to the Seattle Children’s Hospital for his usual weekly visit. But yesterday, he brought along a few special quests.

Before Sunday’s match up between the two teams, Russ called up Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman and receiver Mohamaed Sanu to join him on his weekly visit to meet and greet the kiddies in the hospital. Russell's teammate/Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett also joined them.

The Falcons are in town all week before they go head-to-head against the Seahawks on Sunday.

He posted the pictures on social media accounts captioning,“The Game of Life is way bigger than the game of football. Let's "Pass The Peace."

Russell rocked his purple “Pass The Peace” hoodie in honor of domestic violence awareness month.

Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles tumbled her way to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport to put in some work. Nope, she wasn’t doing flips and stunts.

The 19-year-old gymnast surprised passengers boarding United Airline flights as she transformed into one of the crew members for the day as part of a promotion. She greeted travelers (and they were going nuts), hopped on the P.A. system to make pre-flight announcements and she even got to help direct air traffic. How cool!

Sprite spokesman LeBron James has teamed up with the beverage giant for a new marketing campaign.

The “Wanna Sprite” campaign gives a refreshingly honest take on endorsements and the unique role of a Sprite endorser – all while showing off LeBron's comedic acting chops. And the clips are pretty funny.

Atlanta rapper Lil' Yachty also makes a cameo, performing a parody of his hit single "Minnesota.”

Are Serayah and Romeo Miller taking their new on screen chemistry off screen?  The YBF chick pretty much just shut down any chance that it could be true.  After she was spotted out on what looked like a dinner date (below) with the "Growing Up Hip Hop" star who joined the "Empire" cast this season as Teyana's new boo, 'Gram', we asked what was up.

"We're just friends," the 21-year-old singer dished to us recently. "I've known him for a long time. I lived in the valley and he lived in the valley.  People probably don't catch this, but I go out with a lot of my other co-stars and castmates so, yeah."

Mmhmm.  When we mentioned mixing business and pleasure (Romeo IS fine so a chick could go against her better judgment), she shut all that down with an adamant NAH. 

As for the status of Teyana and Hakeem this season, just like many exes, it's not totally over.

Serayah dished:

"Teyana has a new boyfriend and we get to see the drama with that.  Obviously, Hakeem doesn't know what he wants.  He wants every girl in the world.  That's always going to be the storyline with Hakeem.  He's funny. This season we get to see Hakeem be desperate for people for once, so that's cool."

What she's not shutting down the possibility of is a new mixtape.  She's not just a singer on the show, she also is a self proclaimed R&B head in real life.

She tells us:

"I'm working on my mixtape that I've always wanted to release for my fans.  Just to have content out there and for my fans to get to know me musically." 

With folks loving the 90's all over again, it's only right her music will be something we're already familiar with.

"It's really R&B," she tells us.  "It's so throwback-y that it feels familiar.  That's where I thrive and I love that.  I get to be so creative and I get to talk about what I want to talk about.  I want my fans to have it for free and just be able to connect with me more."

Based on what we've seen so far in season 3, her Tianna character may just be giving us a peek at what Serayah herself is about to release.

On how she started her YouTube tutorials:

“I never really considered myself the face of the movement I just do what I do and I live in my own truth. The truth of myself is that I love short, versatile hair. One thing I’ve learned about being a Black Woman is that we are so versatile, we’re versatile in so many ways… and with our hair and it’s a way we get to express ourselves with so may styles…On my YouTube channel that came about almost by accident…I was working on a talk series called Exhale for Esquire Network and I met Angela Burt Murray; and I showed her a video I shot in my bathroom when I was living in New Jersey…she was like well what are you doing with this video? And I was like ‘nothing’ and she said we should do something with this…she and I started doing these tutorials which as you know are wildly popular. On YouTube their the number two category is beauty tutorials, right after gaming…I had no idea what a huge following this would be so it sort of circles back to what my calling is…it’s another thing I have an affinity for…so again, I get to do what I love!”

On daytime television...

R&B singer Michel’le and actress Rhyon Nicole Brown (who plays Michel’le in her LIFETIME biopic) stopped by “The Real” today to dish on Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le. Rhyon shares how she prepared for the film and tips for emulating Michel’le’s pitch perfect vocals.

Meanwhile, Michel’le opened up to to viewers about what she hopes women will take away from the film.

“I want people, I want woman especially to take away from this that you should know your power by ten years-old. You have to understand, we actually birth the men, we raise the men and then we have to go out and find one for ourselves and raise again.”

She continued, “We’re very powerful human beings. And I want women to look at this and say, “All these things that I went through… They are not mistakes. They are not regrets. They were obstacles.” And I think if women start looking at things that way and knowing who they are. And they can do things, you’re already whole, he makes you just a better whole. But use your strength and if you start early, I want them to take that away from this film.”

Lil Wayne just released his prison diary in the form of a new book titled "Gone ‘Til November: A Journal of Rikers Island."

The Young Money honcho chatted with the New York Times about a plethora of topics, including his recent comments about the #BlackLivesMatter movement. You’ll recall, Wayne said he’s never experience racism and that it doesn’t exist during an interview on “Undisputed.” Well, he still feels that way. And he doesn’t care who doesn’t like it.

He told the publication:

“I was on a sports show recently, and I was asked a question like that about black lives or whatever. When we got off the air, [the host] Shannon Sharpe said: ‘I really want to commend you for answering like that, because you didn’t make something up just to make yourself one of us. And to make yourself a victim.’ I’m not that. And honestly, I don’t care. I care what’s going on with me and my kids and my world and my mom and who’s going to pay this next bill. That’s what matters to me."

He still doesn't get it, but he might as soon as someone in the world happens to not know that the kid they're treating like crap is Lil Wayne's kid.  Privilege comes in all forms.

The New Orleans native, who’s currently in the midst of a multi-million lawsuit with Birdman and Cash Money, seemed optimistic about the outcome of his long-going feud with his label. Does he see a light at the end of the tunnel?

“I do,” Wayne said. I” don’t have to even look. I’m gonna make sure that there’s light. If there’s a wall at the end of the tunnel, I’m gonna shoot that [expletive] down. And there’s gonna be light behind that wall.”

Weezy also talked about the new wave of rappers on the scene. Well, he tried. When asked, "Are there rappers in the new school that are motivating you? Are you keeping up with Yachty, Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Kodak?" His answer:

“I swear to God I didn’t know you were saying people’s names just now, so that should probably answer that question. I just do my own thing.”

On late night television...

Soulful singer Erykah Badu (who will be hosting the 2016 Soul Train Awards) and Nas took their talents to “Jimmy Kimmel” to perform their powerful duet “This Bitter Land,” a cut from The land’s original soundtrack. A string section backed the music titans as they spit their socially conscious lyrics about being a black person living in America.

Erykah stars in the film and Nas serves as an executive producer. The indie project, directed by Steve Caple Jr, tells the story of four teenage boys who devote their summer to escaping the mean streets of Cleveland, Ohio to pursue a dream life of professional skateboarding. Unfortunately, they get caught up in a drug operation. The film also stars former "The Wire" actor Michael K. Williams and rapper Machine Gun Kelly.

YBF actors, politicians, entertainers, and even church folks, are speaking up about why Planned Parenthood is so important as the women's health organization turns 100.  We've got the first look at their powerful words inside...

Election years tend to shine a light on important issues like women's health more than ever.  While many of us have the ability to go to the doctor of our choosing and be offered the best health care available, many of us do not.  Whether it's affordability, accessibility or knowledge that prevents many women from receiving proper healthcare, organizations like Planned Parenthood have stepped up to the plate to fill that gap. 

In its centennial year, well known politicians, actors, judges, and even a reverend are speaking to the importance of women from every city having access to proper healthcare.  We also hear an important take on what being pro-life really means.  The overwhelming majority of what the organization does is offer proper healthcare to those who need it.  Still, some politicians have been on a mission to defund Planned Parenthood in efforts to remove them from cities and states.

No days off!

Funnyman Kevin Hart continues on the promo tour for his new comedy film What Now?, also starring Hollywood heavy hitters Halle Berry and Don Cheadle.  He has been everywhere lately.  And we mean everywhere.

Last night, Kevin, who just copped his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, brought his wife Eniko along as his date for TWO screenings of his new blockbuster film. The newlyweds hit the red carpet at the What Now? NYC screening held at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 Theater.

So much for those pregnancy rumors. The 37-year-old actor confirmed on “The Breakfast Club” that his wife isNOT pregnant, despite what folks have been saying. At least, not yet.

He said when they get pregnant, he’ll let the world know when they’re ready. Gotta respect that.

After the NYC screening, the Harts hopped on a private jet to fly to Kevin's hometown of Philly....

The comedian/actor, who is the world's top paid comedian this year, hosted a special hometown fan screening of the film at UA Riverview. When does he sleep?

What Now? hits theaters tomorrow.

Looks like Zoe Kravitz may have called it quits with Twin Shadow and has a new beau.

She found time away from filming her new movie Rock That Body for a party night with who looks to be her new man. Zoe was spotted leaving the Bowery Hotel holding hands with her new bae after they partied it up at the Kings of Leon concert. He's definitely a departure from her last boyfriend(s), but a chick can always have options.

Rock That Body, also starring big names like Scarlett Johansson and Demi Moore, is expected to hit theaters June 2017.

On reality TV....

Master P is about to spill some hot tea about his nasty on-going divorce with his estranged wife Sonya Miller.

“Growing Up Hip Hop” premiered Thursday night and P was seen laying down a new track in the studio. A very personal track.

"My baby mama tryin' to sue a hitter,” he raps. “I hit the club, bad women tryin' to recruit a hitter .. I gave you everything and this how you do a hitter? They say a broken hearted woman might shoot a hitter. I stay a hundred feet away from her, I hope that new dude you got got cake for you. Even though you tried to play my boy, I pray for ya, only for the kids man, I still might make a way for ya. LOVE!"

Since Sonya filed for divorce in 2013, she and P have been feuding over their children and spousal support.

"My father's song is about going through a very public divorce with my mom," Romeo says in a clip (via TooFab). “Everyone's going through something and everybody wants to repair that thing that has been broken. First my mom, now Angela, it's crazy."

Yeah, he’s talking about being blindsided by Angela Simmons’ surprise engagement and baby.

A discussion between Birth of a Nation actress/activist Aunjanue Ellis and BLACK Co-Founder Amber Phillips on Roland Martin’s “New One Now” got HEATED when talking about black women being the cause of Nate Parker’s slave revolt film to “flop” at the box office. Also, Roland himself got dragged on Twitter for “guilting” black women to go see the film. Get it all inside….

Whoa!

Birth of a Nation actress/activist and Brown University grad Aunjanue Ellis went all the way there during a discussion with BLACK Co-Founder Amber Phillips on Roland Martin’s “News One Now” about how Nate Parker’s Birth of a Nation performed at the box office.  By the way, the film wasn't necessarily a flop.

There seems to be a divide in the black community, particularly among black women, about whether or not to support the film.

During the discussion, Amber Phillips made the point that black women should not let mainstream media criticize them for not supporting Nate Parker (who wrote, produced, directed and starred in the film) after being accused of rape (that he was eventually acquitted of).  She feels that regardless of the aquittal, his testimony (and others) proves consent was not given for him to proceed to having sex with an arguably unconscious woman.

She said,

“Black women owe Nate Parker nothing. Black women owe this movie nothing. If we decide that we don’t want to go and see this, we should not be reduced to being called petty, we should not be revictimized. Even Roland Martin participated in victimizing Black women who are saying absolutely this is a line that we are drawing…The movie wasn’t successful because of this controversy and because we said no. We said now is not the time and we want better and we want more. If Nate Parker can start a revolution in defense of rape then what if this is our revolution to say we’ve actually had enough.”

Aunjanue Ellis, who also stars on ABC's "Quantico," totally disagrees. She said black women (or anyone for that matter) shouldn’t be shamed for wanting to see the film and to get educated on Nat Turner due to what happened in the director’s personal life. And she was passionate about it.

“I’m not asking you for anything,” Aunjanue said. “I’m not personally asking you for anything,” said Ellis. “I’m asking for the people in Mississippi who ain’t ever heard about Nat Turner. Please. There has to be a space for that. But they don’t know, Sis. They don’t know. Please listen to me. You are coming from – and I admire the heck out of you – but you are coming from a position of privilege and you don’t even realize it. You don’t even realize it. You have information and not only that, you have the fire and presence of mind to want it and that makes you different. And this is why this movie has to get out to people who don’t have what you have. So what about them? You are not in Mississippi, Sis. Or Alabama and you don’t understand. Sis, you don’t understand. Those people don’t have the presence of mind to do that organizing. What about the folks who just want to come see a movie? I’m a black woman, too and I want more, too. We don’t have to sacrifice one over the other. That’s all I’m saying.”

Speaking of Birth of a Nation...

Roland himself came under fire when he posted an article blaming low box office numbers on "the unrepentant pettiness of Black feminists." That set several people off and they proceeded to drag him in his mentions. As the tweets started rolling in, Roland responded with the above tweet that said, "My position is clear: Don't like #BirthOfANation because of Nate's rape allegations? Fine. Don't make it about a white wife. @LukeCage too."

Sean Kingston knocked a fan upside the head during a performance in Australia last night. Find out why inside…

Don’t mess with Sean Kingston. He's literally hitting people over the head with a mic.  Homie don’t play that!

Last night, the “Beautiful Girls” singer hit the stage at Australia’s SinCity nightclub where things took a turn for the worse. Apparently, a fan threw ice at him while he was performing, and then he flipped the bird! So, Sean took the situation into his own hands to handle it.

He leaned forward and tried to hit him/her in the head with his microphone! We can’t really tell if he actually made contact, but he surely tried. The heckler was reportedly thrown out the club and the show went on.

It’s about to be LITTY in the States! If you have plans to travel to Cuba, you’ll be happy to know you can bring back some Cuban goodies if you so please. Get the latest on President Barack Obama’s new regulations on Cuban goods inside…

Travelers who love Cuban cigars and rum will be happy to know that a new executive order has been put in place for Americans to get their hands on the goods.

According to USA Today, the Obama administration announced a new way to increase trade and travel with the communist island: No more restrictions on the Cuba's famed rum and cigars. Aye!

Now, U.S. travelers are allowed to purchase unlimited (you read that right) quantities of Cuban cigars and rum in any country where they’re sold (as long as its for personal consumption) and will be allowed to bring it back to the States. For those of you who don’t have plans on traveling out of the country, unfortunately you can’t order ish online and have it sent to your home. Sorry!

Cuban cigars and rum aren't the only things allowed in now. USA Today also reports:

The regulations issued by the U.S. departments of Commerce and Treasury will make it easier for U.S. companies to import Cuban-made pharmaceuticals, U.S. agricultural companies to sell their products to the island and Cubans to purchase U.S.-made goods online.

The changes follow a series of steps taken since President Obama and Cuban President Raúl Castro (above) announced on Dec. 17, 2014, that the Cold War foes would normalize relations after more than a half century of enmity.

New York Giants baller Rashad Jennings hosted a much needed discussion with his teammates and New Jersey senator Cory Booker to discuss how to improve race relations and more. They even get into the controversial racial aspects of sports.  Details inside…

Football isn’t the only thing important to New York Giants Runningback Rashad Jennings. He’s really big on education, race, and social issues that affect the black community. FYI – He launched the Rashad Jennings Foundation to help inspire youth by making education fun.  He provides mentorship for individual success, and to promote health and fitness worldwide.

On Wednesday, the NFL running back hosted a “locker room” discussion -- what locker room talk actually looks like, ahem, Trump -- with New Jersey senator Cory Booker, his teammates (both black and white), head coach Ben McAdoo, and general manager Jerry Reese to discuss ways to improve race relations in America, inequality issues, and more.

Sen. Booker was tapped to speak where he presented facts and statistics on incarceration rates in minority communities and offered up ways for people to get more involved with tackling such issues.

"Once you hear the facts, not opinions ... right or wrong, the facts are the facts, and you want to make a difference in any way you possibly can," Jennings said. "Law is good, when it's accountable. Law needs to be enforced, but people need to be accountable for their actions."

Rashad, who has led much of the team’s internal discussion on the subject, called the closed door meeting an eye-opening experience.  He said he hopes it will drive his teammates (and others) to get more involved in their communities.  Sen. Booker remarked about how floored he was to receive the invite to come and help guide the men who are itching to make moves.  Smart moves.

The NYTimes reports:

“We wanted somebody who can educate us and point us in the right direction in terms of the possibilities for us,” Jennings said. “We wanted to know the various things we could do.”

Jennings predicted that the meeting, which was closed to members of the news media but was recounted in detail by participants afterward, would lead more Giants to become socially engaged.

“There is nothing special about us; we’re just in a special position,” Jennings said. “We get to be a magnifying glass for things that are important. People will listen to the things we have to say, and we can generate conversation on issues.”

Love that!

"This is not going to be a one-week fix," he said. "This is something that's a start and it may take time, but it's good to see that guys care. People truly care once they have the proper information, and are educated. If certain information is not privy to you, you're not aware, so it's hard to care. It's hard to make a difference. But once you're educated and when you have the facts, then you have more confidence in actually making a step to make a change."

Giants linebacker Jonathan Casillas also chimed in after the discussion saying:

“[Cory Booker] did a good job of making us aware of the relevant issues that go way beyond what you see on social media,”  said. “They are things we don’t really know or see. But those are the things that you do need to know if you’re going to make a plan to help make changes.”

“This meeting is going to be the catalyst for what’s going to happen next,” Casillas said. “And something is going to happen. As we learned today, sometimes these things can take time. So I don’t know when, but we’re all working on it. We’re all believing in our hearts that something has got to change. And it’s only right to get together like we did today and try to help make that happen.”

“We’ve been informed, and it’s new information that we needed,” he said, sitting in a players’ lounge adjacent to the team’s practice fields. “We can now collectively take that information into the locker room and have these kinds of conversations with the guys.

“And now we can pinpoint and target some things. We can’t do everything; we know that. But it’s a start to begin focusing in on some of the things we want to do from our locker room. Athletes can have a lot of power if they have conviction and are willing to take the appropriate steps after they speak.”

Gotta love ballers who are “woke” and putting in work to help make a change.

Well, she worked as a sales associate at the Chicago boutique Ikram. The store’s owner, Ikram Goldman, introduced Meredith to Mrs. Obama, who was a client of Ikram at the time. As FLOTUS made her transition into the White House with her husband President Barack Obama and their daughters, Sasha & Maila, Meredith was there to help come up with her fashion strategy.

Since then, Meredith has strategically pieced together a catalog of “First Lady Looks” that we all wouldn’t mind rocking."In the beginning, designers used the phrase 'first ladyish' to describe a certain traditional look,”  said Meredith. “We really had to break that mold. Highlighting designers from diverse backgrounds with varying levels of success and exposure became an important part of my role."

When Mrs. Obama has to take international trips, where she’s going is always in the mind of Meredith when selecting her ensembles.

"We always take into account where we are going and that country's cultural norms," said Meredith . "The goal is to pay tribute to each place we visit [while] never losing the spirit of the United States."

Needless to say, Meredith has done an exceptional job. "She trusts me, and I don't take that for granted,” she said.

And FLOTUS is beyond pleased with her efforts.
