In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Day of Service, President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and their daughter Malia Obama (not pictured) participated in a community service event at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, DC today.

The First Family assisted a few kiddies in creating mural paintings and assembling literacy kits that will reinforce and enhance reading and writing skills. They were joined by Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, Assistant to the President and Cabinet Secretary Broderick Johnson and CNCS CEO Wendy Spencer (not pictured).

Commemorating Dr King’s birthday on the national day of service, President O issued a proclamation encouraging all Americans to honor his legacy through their own community service activities.

 photo ObamaVisitsBoysGirlsClub5-GBN3ji92el.jpg

Read his full proclamation below:

A champion for justice, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., helped awaken our Nation's long-slumbering conscience and inspired a generation. Through a cacophony of division and hatred, his voice rang out, challenging America to make freedom a reality for all of God's children and prophesying a day when the discord of our Union would be transformed into a symphony of brotherhood. His clarion call echoed the promise of our founding -- that each of us are created equal -- and every day he worked to give meaning to this timeless creed.

Today, we pause to pay tribute to the extraordinary life and legacy of Dr. King, and we reflect on the lessons he taught us. Dr. King understood that equality requires more than the absence of oppression; it requires the presence of economic opportunity. He recognized that "we are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny." In a world full of poverty, he called for empathy; in the face of brutality, he placed his faith in non-violence. His teachings remind us we have a duty to fight against poverty, even if we are wealthy; to care about the child in the decrepit school long after our own children have found success; and to show compassion toward the immigrant family, knowing that we were strangers once, too. Dr. King transformed the concepts of justice, liberty, and equality, and as he led marches and protests and raised his voice, he changed the course of history.

From Dr. King's courage, we draw strength and the resolve to continue climbing toward the promised land. Our Nation has made undeniable progress since his time, but securing these gains requires constant vigilance, not complacency. We have more to do to bring Dr. King's dream within reach of all our daughters and sons. We must stand together for good jobs, fair wages, safe neighborhoods, and quality education. With one voice, we must ensure the scales of justice work equally for all -- considering not only how justice is applied, but also how it is perceived and experienced. As Dr. King told us, "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," and this remains our great unfinished business.

Through struggle and discipline, persistence and faith, patriots and prophetic leaders like Dr. King have driven our country inexorably forward. In every chapter of our great story, giants of history and unheralded foot soldiers for justice have fought to bridge the gap between our founding ideals and the realities of the time. We will never forget all who endured and sacrificed, or those who gave their lives, so that our children might live in a freer, fairer, and more just society.

In sermons and speeches, Dr. King's voice rang out with a call for us to work toward a better tomorrow. As we honor his legacy, Americans across the country will join one another for a day of service, picking up the baton handed to us by past generations and carrying forward their efforts. As one people, we will show when ordinary citizens come together to participate in the democracy we love, justice will not be denied.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 19, 2015, as the Martin Luther King, Jr., Federal Holiday. I encourage all Americans to observe this day with appropriate civic, community, and service projects in honor of Dr. King and to visit www.MLKDay.gov to find Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service projects across our country.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this sixteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord two thousand fifteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-ninth.

BARACK OBAMA

President O also issued a video message for MLK Day. Check it below:

Tomorrow, President Obama will issue his annual State of the Union address to the American people as he outlines his 2015 agenda at 9pm ET.

Nene Leakes' Son Bryson Bryant REPORTEDLY Spent 3 Months In Jail And 6 Weeks In Rehab In 2014

 photo nenedwceecr.png

A new report reveals that Nene Leakes' eldest son, 25-year-old Bryson Bryant, was allegedly locked up in 2014 for a parole violation and sent to rehab for drug abuse.  More inside...

Fans of "RHOA" know Nene Leakes can't stand for people to ignore her accomplishments, so let's start off by reminding folks that Nene played the Evil Stepmother in Broadway's Cinderella opposite Keke Palmer (atop).  And she did it WELL.

But while Nene was shooting "RHOA" and killing it on stage, her eldest son was in rehab for his alleged cocaine habit.  Lawd.....we hope Claudia Jordan doesn't mention this at the reunion.

 photo bryspn.jpg

Bryson's (shown above, left) trouble started when he was busted for shoplifting and driving with a suspended license years ago, this according to Radar Online. Then in June 2013, he was charged with reckless driving and a DUI. He was given one year of probation in February 2014.

Unfortunately, Bryson didn't pull it together and he allegedly went on to miss four meetings with his probation officer.  And that's not all.  According to Radar, he allegedly tested positive for cocaine, skip his court-required driving school, and THEN refused to pay a $1200 fine!  In September 2014, he was reportedly sentenced to three months in jail, and was ordered to go to a six-week, in-patient rehab center in November (after he got out of jail).

Just posting the report....we're not coming for Nene or her son.  That would be so nasty so rude...

Amber Rose is still living it up in the Miami sun.  And she's clapping back at the critics who are mad at her flossing all over their Instagram timelines in....floss.  Check out her newest bikini beach pics and her message for the haters inside...

Chick is about to get the #ThirstTrap crown based solely off her IG photoshoots from her current Miami trip.  After hosting a party at a local strip club and hitting the club scene all weekend, Amber hit the beach to relax yesterday in her little pink bikini.  And she showed that even without the previous filters and photoshop, chick's body is on fire:

Wiz Khalifa's ex-wife was nice enough to stop for pics with her teen "fans".

And she had one more IG flick for her followers and new followers (many of which are atheltes like LeBron James and Dwayne Wade--who followed her then quickly unfollowed).

Folks have been criticizing her pics like THIS and THIS that show damn near everything....saying she is a mom and needs to chill out with that.  Amber doesn't think so.  The divorcée said:

"Omg ur a Mother put some clothes on" ....... Kiss my MILFY ass bitches

Bloop.  And after hitting the beach, she spent the evening in her fave place.....underneath a stripper:

GIRLFIGHT: "Celebrity Apprentice" Stars Kenya Moore & Brandi Glanville's WAR OF WORDS And Catfight Scene

 photo wervverrr33r.png

On last night's "Celebrity Apprentice" things got physical between Kenya Moore and Brandi Glanville...for charity of course.  Watch the Kenya and Brandi "fantasy" girlfight inside and see Kenya shut Brandi down in the boardroom.

During last night's 2-hour episode of "Celebrity Apprentice", former Miss USA and "RHOA" star Kenya Moore won her first challenge as project manager.  But the evening was not without a few bumbs in the road.  And by bumps, we mean Brandi Glanville.

The pair filmed an edgy catfight scene (with pillows!) that mocked their issues with each other in a viral video campaign for coffee firm ‘Chock full o’Nuts.’  But when the team met in the boardroom, things got nasty. Donald Trump praised Kenya for working alongside Brandi, but Kenya took the reigns and accused Brandi of making personal attacks.

‘I did not bring up LeAnn Rimes with her when I had my scene, I did not bring up the fact that her husband left her for a younger and prettier woman so she should not be doing that. She should be leaving my personal life alone and it is obviously something that she does not know anything about. She should not be talking about that, that is unprofessional.'

And with that....a hush fell over the room. Even Vivica A. Fox was shocked!

Watch Kenya's verbal smackdown here:

Reportedly, Brandi previously made some low blows about Kenya getting beat up on the "RHOA" reunion.

Pharrell Covers GQ's February 2015 Issue + J.Lo Covers COMPLEX

 photo 0215GQCOVER_NOUPC_zps1049569b.jpg

The February 2015 issue of GQ features “The Legacy Project,” a Hall of Fame portfolio of music makers who made the most noise over the past twelve months. Cover man Pharrell Williams gave access to his pop culture machine and we've got the highlights of what it's like to be P inside.  Plus, J.Lo's official Complex cover is HOT.  Check it all inside....

In addition to 17 other artists, Pharrell is featured in the new issue of GQ as part of its Legacy Project -- musicians who are leaving something behind.  And P dropped a few nuggets (as GQ followed him throughout his day for 13-hours) as to how his machine has gotten him umpteen Grammys and legacy status.

 photo 0215-GQ-FEPH01-02_zps4c0934db.jpg

On why he surrounds himself with women—including his two assistants, art director, and choreographer:  “I am a sensitive person, so I want to be with sensitive people.  Women have a way of expressing themselves that I can relate to more honestly.”

On his discontent over a recent T.I. record:“They did that record hoping for radio play, and they got nothing out of it.… Great, you got your No. 1 hip-hop song. But what does that do for your sales?”

On not caring about appealing to the masses:“You want to be camouflage? Go ahead. Blend in. But we want to be that twinkle in the sky. And you might not be able to see that star now. But it’s daytime. Wait till it gets dark.”

Overheard while in Pharrell's presence--a new Big Sean track is on the way:“Send [Big] Sean an e-mail and tell him he’s got a missile coming,” Williams tells his assistant before calling Sean himself: “It’s not what we talked about, man. But it’s haaaaard. It’s like ghost-of-Shaka-Zulu hard!”

Check out "The Voice" judge Pharrell's full story, including his surprise appearance at Uniqlo clothing store were homeless children were given a shopping spree, over at GQ.

You've seen the sneak peek, now check out Ms. Lopez serving up some sexy in her white bodysuit for the new cover of COMPLEX magazine.

The setting, her home...after dinner....in mommy mode:

Our interview takes place after dinner, in a book-lined office/study neatly crammed with all types of J.Lo memorabilia-but not before Lopez reminds her kids, twins Emme and Max, that they have school tomorrow, and have to be in bed by 8 p.m. When she finally enters, Jennifer is barefoot and looking super comfortable in ready-for-bed wear. Yes, the icon wears regular pajamas, and she looks great. Speaking with the aura of a seasoned self-help guru, she reveals how she got to this happy place.

On fairytales about relationships that little girls are taught:

Yeah, well, that’s what we’re taught when we’re little. Little girls are taught that especially. Prince Charming is gonna come along. You’re going to live happily ever after, and then that doesn’t happen. You have your first boyfriend in high school and that falls apart and you’re like, “What’s going on?” [Laughs.] All of these things get shattered one by one. It’s so unfair. Nobody teaches us the important thing from when we’re young, which is to value yourself and love yourself, and then you can share happiness and love with other people. That’s what we should be teaching kids, not fairy tales about Prince Charming rescuing you. Or that you have to be Prince Charming and rescue this girl. It’s funny, we’re formed from the time we’re 0 to 7. We’re battling the rest of our lives trying to figure that out. And now that I have my own kids, I think about that stuff a lot, like, what do I want to teach them? I want them to have fantasies and the fairy tales and all that, but at the same time I want them to know what is important, which is to have a great sense of self and to be good on their own.

On whether relationships between older women and younger men can work:

Is it possible for relationships to work when the guy is older than the girl? [Yes.] Well, then I would say yes. [Laughs.] What would be different?

On celebrity hacking being a trade off for fame/fortune:

[Laughs.] Oh! When you become rich and famous, you don’t have feelings anymore?! That’s what it is. OK! C’mon. It’s not about having money in the bank. You can have all the money in the world and it doesn’t mean you’re a happy person. Money doesn’t solve problems. It makes some things easier but it just gives you a different set of problems. Everything has a trade-off in this world. I’ve learned that from being broke as hell and having money.

On beautiful women who are insecure

It’s not just beautiful women. It’s all women. And it’s all men, too. It’s everyone. People are more surprised when they hear that somebody who is attractive is insecure. I don’t understand that because, again, we’re all human. Nobody looks in the mirror and goes, “That person is so perfect!” It’s just the nature of a human being that they have insecurities. You try to do things that you’re proud of to boost up your self-esteem and your integrity. At the end of the day, you’re the only person who can give that to you. That’s something that everybody struggles with at one time or another. I’m no different than anybody else in that sense.

On the endless rumors that have followed her through a 20 year career

The rumors at that time were so endless. I still haven’t figured that all out completely. I’ve thought sometimes, “Was it because I was a woman? Was it because I was a minority?” [Laughs.] I was like, “Why me? Why are they picking on me so much? What have I done?” It’s funny. Men get praise when they are successful, like, “Look how great he’s doing.” Women get criticized for some reason. I don’t understand it. All I know is that because I’ve stuck around for so long people realize, “Oh, that must not be true.” [Laughs.] “We finally got to know the real her.”

...

[The all white dressing room requests] wasn’t really a request from me. [Laughs.] You have managers and record company people saying, “It’s always dirty backstage in those little studios. Let’s make it nice for her.” And they’re attempting to make it nice because I was one of the hardest-working people at that time. I was literally working nonstop until I had a breakdown. In their attempt to [make things nice for me], they got me a reputation for asking for things like that. It used to bother me [but] I feel people know who I am now.

On concerns about daughter Emme and the plastic surgery phenomenon

Yeah, what is she gonna want to do, or how good is she gonna feel about herself? I hope to show her from example that you have to love yourself for who you are. And that doesn’t mean that you can’t do things to enhance yourself, like work out, or if somebody wants to get a nose job. I don’t know. You can take a hard stance on things and then eat your words later. All I’m saying is, at the end of the day, you got to feel happy about who you are inside, and then you can make good choices for yourself.

On critics of her "Booty" video being too sexy for a mother to take part in

I’m not allowed to be sexy because I’m a mom? It’s like, How do you think I got my children? [Laughs.] The truth is I don’t want to do anything that they would be embarrassed of in the long run. But at the end of the day, they care more about me being there, taking care of them, than if I’m sexy in a video. And I’m not saying that one day they may not be like, “Mom! Why did you do that?!” [Laughs.] But I don’t think that in 10 years I’m going to be doing that either. Again, it’s about what feels good to me in this moment. It felt right. It’s a good message for women. I’m standing next to this girl who is 24 years old and I’m in my 40s and there’s no difference. Women need to see that and feel that. You can’t let the fear of what people might say or think stop you from doing what you want to do or else we would never do anything.

RUMOR CONTROL: Dawn Richard Says She Has NOT Gone Under The Knife, EXPLAINS Why She PUNCHED Aubrey O’Day & Why She’s DONE With Groups

0
0

 photo dric1.png

Dawn Richard is opening up about whether or not she has had plastic surgery, explains why she set it off on her Danity Kane bandmate Aubrey O’Day and why she is done with being in a group. Get the deets inside….

Former Danity Kane member Dawn Richard is now a solo artist after being in two separate groups that eventually failed. But, that’s not stopping her grind. The singer is now concentrating on her solo career with the release of her brand new album Blackheart, which is the second album from her trilogy that she dubs “The Black Era”.

This morning, Dawn stopped by Power 105’s The Breakfast Club to talk about her newly released LP, but of course, she was asked about the now infamous fight between her and her ex-bandmate Aubrey O’Day. You’ll recall Dawn and Aubrey got into a huge altercation where it was alleged Dawn punched Aubrey in the face while they were in the studio, resulting in the cops being called and eventually the disbandment of the group.

Dawn has already spoken out with her side of the story, but now she's dishing the extra deets on what REALLY went down. In so many words, she said Aubrey and Shannon Bex went behind her back to lay down some vocals on a track she had already recorded. They decided to have a studio session, but kept Dawn out of the loop. The thing is, the producer on the track hit her up letting her know they were coming to the studio not knowing Aubrey and Shannon hadn’t told her about it. When she walked in on them and confronted them, ish went left and things got out of hand and that's when she punched Aubrey (allegedly in the face). After that, Dawn said it was no coming back and she was done. She's done with being in a group all together and is now solely focused on building her own brand and perfecting her craft.

The "Castles" singer also talked about those rumors about her having work done to her face. Dawn has pretty much remained mum on the subject but she's now ready to denounce it all.  We guess it was just Dawn playing around with photoshop.

Below are the highlights:

On getting cosmetic surgery:
“No (she has not gotten plastic surgery), but honestly I have come to the conclusion that people have already decided what they want to say and what they believe. If I say no they’re going to say I’m a liar and if I say yes they’ll be like you a disgrace. You bleach your skin”.

On what sparked the cosmetic surgery rumors:
“I can’t even give you the way it started because I’m not in that place but shoutout to the people who think I spent that much [$100,000] on my face”.

On why she decided to go back to Danity Kane:
“I wanted to prove to myself I could finish something. If a lot of the fans wanted it I thought maybe it would have been a really good idea. We could have done something revolutionary”.

On why Danity Kane broke up:

“The problem with Danity Kane was everybody wanted to play eveybody’s role. And when you’re in a group like that, that can’t survive. Everybody can’t be Kobe [Bryant] on the team”.

On why she punched her bandmate Aubrey O’Day in the face:
“There is no excuse for my behavior but what I’m saying it everybody gets pushed to a limit. When something is poisoning and you go into the studio and people are literally going behind your back and lying to you and taking your vocals and doing things that are shady that’s foul”. She said her father had cancer, her grandfather died and then she got sick, so she took a little time off. They were supposed to go in the studio and lay down their vocals. When she came back, she recorded her parts and when they went back and listened to it they felt she had too many adlibs. They told her they had studio one day, but went in the day before to re-record Dawn’s adlibs with their voices and Dawn walked in on them doing it. She said she tried to confront them and that’s when ish went left. She said she found out that they were in the studio when the producer on the track hit her up telling her they were coming, but he didn’t know they didn’t tell her about the session.

On if she and Aubrey could ever be cool again:
“It’s no love lost. I love my group members; I just don’t like the things that we do. When something is poison you have to know when to say it’s enough. I didn’t like who I was when I was in it. We didn’t love it. We were coming in fighting, that’s not what we suppose to be. It’s supposed to be love. If it’s not about the art, if it’s not about the fans then what are we really doing it for?” She said she’s DONE with groups.

On her ex-boyfriend Q from Day 26:
“I haven’t talked to him.”

On her relationship with Diddy:
“That’s the homie.”

On if she’s in a relationship:
[Pause] “I am having a great time this year. I’m taking this one all the way private.

 photo rommi.png

Welp…looks like Romeo Miller is off the market. And he may have met his new chick on the set of one of those ICDC College commercials he stars in. Get the deets on his blonde pageant queen inside….

Romeo Miller has a new lady in his life. And she goes by the name of Toneata Morgan…a pageant queen who was crowned Miss Malibu Teen USA 2014. Recently, she participated in Miss California Teen USA 2015 ranking as the 4th runner-up. And her boo Romeo was right by her side to cheer her on. He posted the picture above last week with the caption, “You shined like a diamond at the #misscaliforniausa pageant my love @toneatam I'm so I'm so I'm so proud of you!”

Last night, photogs caught up with the couple where Romeo confirmed this is the new chick he's currently dating. He said, "This is my beautiful girl. Her name’s Toneata, not just a new blonde”. And before they could hop into their waiting ride, Romeo was all over her, kissing her on the lips before saying “I just want to kiss her all the time". Hmph. Must be semi-serious...at least for now.

Also....

 photo rr6.png

According to her website, she is also an aspiring model and actress. She has starred as a supporting actress in Willow Smith’s “21st Century Girl” music video and she has also starred in an ICDC College commercial alongside Romeo (above right). So, it’s likely the two met on set while filming the spot. You can check out the clip here. Guess he scored double with that gig.

The twosome brought in 2015 together with a kiss (above). And had a cutesy date at Disney Land last month:

But in between chatting it up about her new reality show, the "Start A Fire" singer was spotted styling in a white Just Enaj turtle neck crop top and matching mini skirt, showing off her legs, as she ran a few errands in L.A. today.  And it looks like one stop was a school, possibly her daughter's.

 photo MILLAIN4.jpg

Cute booties.

Since announcing she and Wayne are more than just "friends", she has had to "defend" her love and clap back at the "haters" via social media, a la Karrine Steffans. Interestingly enough, she has yet to say anything to her beau's first baby mother Toya Wright (who spoke out on her disapproval back in October), which means she probably won't saying anything about one of his other baby mamas, Nivea.

Which brings us to....

In a recent interview with Team Curtains, Nivea addressed her "status" with the "Turned Up" reality star and her relationship with her baby daddy Lil Wayne. When asked about her current relationship with C-Milli and how she feels about their budding romance she said,

“We have no status [laughs]. The status actually for me is that we are mothers of siblings. She married the same dude I did. She has a daughter by my ex-husband who is now her ex-husband as well, who is my eldest three siblings other half fricking sibling. Now she’s dating my other baby daddy so go figure. I haven’t talked to her. There’s nothing I can do about that but I definitely don’t support the craziness but it is what it is”.

This HAS to be weird for her...and the kids. Nevertheless, Lil Wayne and her other baby daddy The Dream are great co-parents and are well involved in her kids' lives. She said they all make sure each of their children spend time with one another and they're all doing great. Well...at least that's one positive. Check her full interview above (she starts talking about Christina at the 8:09 mark).

STATE OF THE UNION: President Obama's Perfect Clapback To Republicans' Diss + First Lady Michelle Gets Fabulous In Michael Kors

 photo obamassotu_zps799dd06a.jpg

Last night's State of the Union speech was pretty much epic.  From all the damns President Obama refused to give (rightfully so), to First Lady Michelle Obama looking as fabulous as ever, to our President showcasing the long list of his administration's accomplishments that have turned America around.  We've got the highlights inside....

 photo BarackObamaDeliversStateUnionAddresshR-AwA4JGyEl_zpsf63688a1.jpg

Before we get to the economic and social improvements of America, let's talk about the fabulousness that is our First Lady.

 photo BarackObamaDeliversStateUnionAddressf_hDPbWwxkEl_zpsc63dc0ed.jpg

Michelle Obama was a Presidential vision in a Fall 2013 Michael Kors customized grey tweed zip-front jacket and matching pencil skirt.  Effortlessly chic. (You can purchase her look via Edited In Chic...hurry before it sells out!)

 photo MichelleObamaBarackObamaDeliversStateIxYVGA39_9Al_zps7ad6a4cc.jpg

 photo BarackObamaDeliversStateUnionAddress1U-Hdqv7doVl_zpsaddcf816.jpg

And she offered up hugs to The Second Lady of the United States, Dr. Jill Biden. Fabulous women indeed.

President Barack Obama gave one of his best State of the Union speeches before members of Congress in the House chamber of the U.S. Capitol last night.  He urged Congress to address income inequality based on gender, he spoke about making it easier for Americans to afford college education with free community college, and also child care reform for working parents.

 photo BarackObamaDeliversStateUnionAddresswoJG_fM1Wy-l_zpsd2a69392.jpg

But one of the best moments of the night was his clapback when Republicans attempted to get smart.  During his speech, while speaking about his agenda for the next two years, he said, "I have no more campaigns to run..."

A small group of Republicans decided to interrupt and clap loudly.  President Obama went off script and responded,"I know because I won both of them"

Don't come for Mr. President unless he sends for you...Bloop!  Check out the video below:

Needless to say, Mr. President was a meme machine last night on the interwebs...and so was Vice President Joe Biden who always reassures us, simply with his meme-worthy facial expressions, that he has Obama's back to the fullest.  We can't say the same about Speaker Boehner who seemed bothered the entire time.

 photo BarackObamaDeliversStateUnionAddressmsapAaiCk8zl_zps906ea07c.jpg

But guess who ran out of damns to give.  Here's a few highlights from President Obama's speech where he makes an amazing effort to unify the country and appeal to everyone's human side, plus the full hour long speech is below:

On the turnaround of America during the Obama administration

We are fifteen years into this new century. Fifteen years that dawned with terror touching our shores; that unfolded with a new generation fighting two long and costly wars; that saw a vicious recession spread across our nation and the world. It has been, and still is, a hard time for many.  But tonight, we turn the page.

Tonight, after a breakthrough year for America, our economy is growing and creating jobs at the fastest pace since 1999. Our unemployment rate is now lower than it was before the financial crisis. More of our kids are graduating than ever before; more of our people are insured than ever before; we are as free from the grip of foreign oil as we’ve been in almost 30 years.

Tonight, for the first time since 9/11, our combat mission in Afghanistan is over. Six years ago, nearly 180,000 American troops served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Today, fewer than 15,000 remain. And we salute the courage and sacrifice of every man and woman in this 9/11 Generation who has served to keep us safe. We are humbled and grateful for your service.

On equal pay and raising minimum wage

"Of course, nothing helps families make ends meet like higher wages. That’s why this Congress still needs to pass a law that makes sure a woman is paid the same as a man for doing the same work. Really. It’s 2015. It’s time. We still need to make sure employees get the overtime they’ve earned. And to everyone in this Congress who still refuses to raise the minimum wage, I say this: If you truly believe you could work full-time and support a family on less than $15,000 a year, go try it. If not, vote to give millions of the hardest-working people in America a raise."

On making an inclusive America

"As Americans, we respect human dignity, even when we’re threatened, which is why I’ve prohibited torture, and worked to make sure our use of new technology like drones is properly constrained. It’s why we speak out against the deplorable anti-Semitism that has resurfaced in certain parts of the world. It’s why we continue to reject offensive stereotypes of Muslims – the vast majority of whom share our commitment to peace. That’s why we defend free speech, and advocate for political prisoners, and condemn the persecution of women, or religious minorities, or people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. We do these things not only because they’re right, but because they make us safer."

On a woman's right to choose

"We still may not agree on a woman’s right to choose, but surely we can agree it’s a good thing that teen pregnancies and abortions are nearing all-time lows, and that every woman should have access to the health care she needs."

On repairing trust of police
"We may have different takes on the events of Ferguson and New York. But surely we can understand a father who fears his son can’t walk home without being harassed. Surely we can understand the wife who won’t rest until the police officer she married walks through the front door at the end of his shift. Surely we can agree it’s a good thing that for the first time in 40 years, the crime rate and the incarceration rate have come down together, and use that as a starting point for Democrats and Republicans, community leaders and law enforcement, to reform America’s criminal justice system so that it protects and serves us all." #Obama #SOTU #Ferguson #Justice

On MLK

"We may go at it in campaign season, but surely we can agree that the right to vote is sacred; that it’s being denied to too many and that on this 50th anniversary of the great march from Selma to Montgomery and the passage of the Voting Rights Act, we can come together, Democrats and Republicans, to make voting easier for every single American."

On cyber security and terrorism

“No foreign nation, no hacker, should be able to shut down our networks, steal our trade secrets, or invade the privacy of American families, especially our kids. We are making sure our government integrates intelligence to combat cyber threats, just as we have done to combat terrorism. And tonight, I urge this Congress to finally pass the legislation we need to better meet the evolving threat of cyber-attacks, combat identity theft, and protect our children’s information. If we don’t act, we’ll leave our nation and our economy vulnerable. If we do, we can continue to protect the technologies that have unleashed untold opportunities for people around the globe.”

RAP & RACECARS: J. Cole COVERS ESPN Magazine’s Music Issue Alongside Dale Earnhardt Jr. + Cole’s Girlfriend Melissa Heholt Spotted Wedding Gown Shopping

 photo jce.jpg

J. Cole is gracing the newest cover for ESPN magazine’s music issue alongside racecar driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. Also, a picture of Cole’s alleged fiancée Melissa Heholt shopping for wedding gowns has surfaced. Get it all inside…

What looks like an unlikely pair may not be so odd after all. In fact, racecar driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a big fan of J. Cole’s. And the feeling seems to be mutual.

Roc Nation rapper J. Cole and NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. are gracing the cover of ESPN magazine’s Music Issue. And if you’re wondering how or why these two linked up for the cover…it’s simple.

In a previous interview, Dale was asked who was he rocking out to before hitting the race track and he name dropped J. Cole’s “Power Trip”. Word got back to the North Carolina rapper, so he gave Dale a shoutout on his track “Note to Self”, which appears on his newest album 2014 Forest Hills Drive. FUN FACT: Dale Earnhardt Jr. is also from North Carolina...so there’s a hometown connection.

On "Note to Self" he raps,

“Man, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., dawg. I’m never gone forget, this is gonna sound crazy but I’m never gonna forget that sh*t you told me, yo.”

“For, real, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., man, thank you, dawg. From the bottom of my heart. That sh*t you said to me changed my life man. And I ain’t never gone forget, ever for real. For real Dale, form me to you, you my n*gga man, for real. I love you boy.”

The thing is…it was a joke…but not really. He explained,

J. COLE: It all started when I missed the deadline for the physical CD album credits, so I decided to put them on a song and basically shout out everybody who had something to do with the album. I'd been working on the album for a year, and I was in such an ecstatic mood -- I felt like I won. So while I'm shouting out everybody, I was like, "I may as well pretend a shoutout, somebody I have no idea who they are, just as a joke."

There was an interview Dale Jr. did that asked him what he plays before races, and he said "J. Cole 'Power Trip,'" which freaked me out! What is Dale Earnhardt Jr. doing playing my shit? How did he even find out about it? You don't think somebody on that level would ever hear your stuff. From there, I never forgot. I was always like, "Yo, I ride with Dale Earnhardt Jr." So when I was picking a name, I chose his. And it worked out crazy. Everywhere I go now -- the airport, the store -- people say, "Yo, Cole, I love that album, bro, it's a classic!" And Dale Earnhardt Jr., it's the first thing they bring up! It's already a thing in hip-hop, already an inside joke that's going to live forever.

Cole then went on to talked about the rap world and the NASCAR merging and how big of a deal it could be. He said,

J. COLE: Our worlds have a lot more in common than people want to think. Stereotypes prevent the worlds from colliding and connecting more. The powers that be like it like that. They like it that the cultures don't mix, because if they ever were to mix, they would realize they're in the same boat and have a lot more in common than they have differences. It's these guys that are actually holding us down -- both of us. [Rap] culture has a lot in common with this culture and doesn't know it. And this culture doesn't know it either. It could change the world if they were to ever merge and really become friends.

Nice! Peep a clip of their interview below:

Their issue hits newstands Feb. 2nd.

Speaking of Cole....

 photo jcm.png

Look who was spotted combing through wedding gowns at L'Fay Bridal boutique recently. It's J. Cole's longtime girlfriend Melissa Heholt.

You'll recall, reports alleged the "Born Sinner" rapper popped the question to his longtime girlfriend (supposedly of 10 years) with a stunning four-carat diamond ring. It was also alleged the twosome have chosen a date and location. Well, after seeing her all smiles posing it up in front of a collection of bridal gowns, maybe it's closer than we think. Or maybe she's playing into the rumors....

We will definitely keep you posted.

 photo Big-Sean-255.jpg

Big Sean sat down with "XXL" to dish on the current state of Hip Hop, his Detroit upbringing and his next career moves.  See the highlights inside and watch The Weeknd's"Earned It" video.

 photo Big-Sean-202.jpg

In the latest issue of XXL, Big Sean takes a cue from his mentor Kanye West and declares his greatness.  While discussing Hip Hop and the current crop of rappers on the scene, the "IDFWU" admits that the fans aren't getting great music.  "There’s not a lot of good rap music out there. So I really feel like there’s big responsibility for me to make good rap music."

He goes on to reveal that his first two albums had a few flaws, but he expects to make a perfect album one day.  "I feel like there are flaws on the first album [and] flaws on the second album. I don’t know if I’ll ever drop an album that doesn’t have any flaws…I probably will drop a perfect album one day. I’m going to master that."  Here are the highlights:

On his career:

“What I liked about Forrest Gump was that he never thought about anything but being happy. That’s how I’m guiding [my career] now—just following happiness.”

On growing up in Detroit:

I think it made me open-minded,” Sean says of the constant back and forth between the decidedly disparate environments. “I never compromised myself in any situation though. It wasn’t like I was trying to fit in when I was in the hood or trying to fit in when I was at school, I was always just me.”

On why he's one of the best rappers and making good music:

"There’s not a lot of good rap music out there. So I really feel like there’s big responsibility for me to make good rap music, because there are only a few people that make it. I’m a beast out here. I’m not going to front. When it comes to this rap shit, you really got to be on a high level to fuck with me.”

‘With This Ring’ Cast Regina Hall, Eve Cooper & Jill Scott Get FAB For “TODAY” Show—Talk Love & Marriage In Their Personal Lives

 photo wtr1.png

Get excited!  The ultimate chick flick With This Ring premieres this weekend. And this morning the leading ladies Regina Hall, Eve Cooper and Jill Scott stopped by the “TODAY” show to chop it up about their new telefilm and finding love in their personal lives. Get it inside….

We are days away from the premiere of the LIFETIME original movie With This Ring, starring Regina Hall, Eve Cooper& Jill Scott. And we already know it's going to be good.

Directed by "The Game"'s Nzingha Stewart, With This Ring is a tv adaptation based on the fabulous book"The Vow" by Mitzi Miller, Angela Burt Murray and Denene Millner. And it tells the story of three career driven women who are bestfriends that make a promise, after attending their friend's NYE wedding, to get married within 1 year. The telefilm was executive produced by “Being Mary Jane” star Gabrielle Union and “EXTRA” co-host Tracey Edmonds.

This morning, the leading ladies made an appearance on the “TODAY” show looking absolutely stunning as they posed in front of a wedding backdrop in honor of their new film. The ladies dished to the morning show hosts about the cultural pressure to get married and how it has affected their personal lives.

 photo rh1.png

Regina, who recently starred in Think Like A Man 2, explained how her personal life was parallel with her character. She revealed she actually made a pact with her girlfriends once, in real life, vowing to be married by a certain age or they would have to marry “that guy” who was always into them but they weren’t really that much into him. She said she never made it down the aisle, so she’s currently still living the single life.

Get On Up actress Jill Scott chimed in on a time she gave a guy an ultimatum to marry her. And he had to propose before the new year (similar to the movie). She said he ended up proposing to her on Dec. 30th, but realized it was a terrible decision. So, she too, is living the unmarried life.

BUT…one cast mate IS actually married in real life. Eve married British entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper in June 2014 with a lavish ceremony in Ibiza, Spain. She gushed about her new title as Mrs. saying, “It’s honestly really good. It’s different but I love it. I’m really happy”. Sweet.

With This Rings premieres Saturday, Jan. 24th on LIFETIME at 8/7c.

STUNTIN On My DADDY: Lil Wayne FIRES SHOTS At Birdman On "Coco" (TRACK) + Nas CHATS With "GQ" About Retirement, Police Violence & Kelis

 photo naswezssccy.png

On his newly released mixtape #SorryForTheWait2, Lil Wayne spits a few bars at Birdman, revealing a deeply bruised friendship. Listen to the track inside and see what Nas said about police violence in NYC, and a possible retirement from music in "GQ".

 photo 501551-birdman-lil-wayne-617-409.jpg

Earlier this week, Lil Wayne released his mixed tape #SorryForTheWait2 and it contains a track named "Coco" which many feel is a direct diss of his former mentor/father figure Birdman. The song is a remix of O.T. Genasis club-banger "Coco" and Weezy take aim as his label Cash Money and Birdman with lines like "Who was there when niggas left us? Nigga, me, that's who."

So how bad is the breakdown in their relationship? It's pretty brutal. In fact, Tunechi goes all "Tony Montana" in Scarface on the track. And you know how that scene played out....

"[Intro]
I'm sorry for the wait, I'm sorry for the wait
Tha Carter gon' be late so I cooked up a tape
The garden's full of snakes so I had to escape
Lil homie gon' be straight, lil' homie gon' be straight

[Hook]
This that Sorry 4 The Wait 2
And I'm sorry for the wait too
I told myself to save yourself cause I can't save you
I send my goons to kill somebody, I need head proof
Fuck, this that Sorry 4 The Wait 2
I ain't trippin', I got Barbie, I got Drake too
I send my goons to kill somebody, I need head proof
Then they come through and sit it on my coffee table

[Verse 1]
Who kept this shit together? Nigga, me, that's who
Who was there when niggas left us? Nigga, me, that's who

Cash Money is an army, I'm a one man army
And if them niggas comin' for me, I'm goin' out like Tony
Now I don't want no problems, I just want my money

Ain't gotta hold no conversation or my luggage
Tell whoever's countin' that I'm on a hundred
Birdman Jr., more like Ugly Duckling

[Bridge]
Takin' over, now I'm takin' over
Think it's over? Bitch I'm thinkin' forward
I'm sippin' lean out a glass, nigga
All I got is Young Money, no more Cash, nigga

[Hook]
And this that Sorry 4 The Wait 2
No longer am I my brother's keeper, Cain and Abel
Young Money sharp, I'm still eatin', I just chipped my tooth
Tell them niggas no love lost cause I ain't got shit to lose
I told myself to save yourself cause I can't save you
I send my goons to kill somebody, I need head proof
I found a needle in a haystack, put the thread through
I tried to stitch the wound back up but I just bled through

[Verse 2]
It's compensation over conversation
Lord I must got blurry vision, a nigga's got two faces

Lord, this game is a vampire
Blood you gotta protect your neck, it'll suck you dry like raisins, lord
But fuck that, nigga
Gun drawn out, fuck that, nigga, I'ma ball out
The day you met me is when Hell froze
On the day I left is when it thawed out
I'm still in the buildin', I just have to knock a couple walls down
Have to kick y'all out
Life is a movie but sometimes a nigga get too tired of watchin' and walk out

[Bridge]
Takin' over, Lord I'm takin' over
Dropped the Sorry 4 The Wait until the wait is over
Sippin' lean out a flask, nigga
And all I do is smoke, fuck and thrash, nigga

[Hook]
And this the Sorry 4 The Wait 2
Fuck these haters, throw your board up if you skate too
I send my goons to kill somebody, I need head proof
Then they come through and sit it on my coffee table
Tunechi, niggas don't appreciate you
You've been down since day 1, it meant nothin' on take 2
Sometimes the truth is hard to swallow and to say too
But I graduated from that bullshit, now I hate school

[Outro]
And now I'm takin' over, now I'm takin' over
Old me dead and gone, that's who I'm prayin' over
Might have to go back to slangin' yola 'til the wait is over
If so then I got bakin' soda, I got bakin' soda

Listen to the track here....

On magazine racks....

 photo nas-gq-magazine-february-2015.jpg

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Illmatic, Nas opened up in GQ's February 2015 issue about his life now and how things have changed (or hanve't) since the 1994 debut of Illmatic.  The in-depth piece also includes his thoughts on the state of hip hop, retirement and his ex-wfe.

GQ: Last year was the twentieth anniversary of Illmatic. Do you recognize that person who made that record now?
Nas: Sure—he was a vivacious young man full of a lot of great ideas, excited and ready.

Would he recognize you?
That young man would've saw past who I am today. I've slowed myself down, probably. That young man was prepared to go further.

Would you have posed with your ex-wife's dress on the cover of a record, as you did with 2012's Life Is Good, when you were 20?
I would've took it to another level. I'd have had an imitation of her—someone who looked like her in the dress. I would've went way further with it. That's why the younger generation needs to never be afraid to go all the way. Because I wasn't afraid. I expressed myself honestly. And it's important for them to see that. After that thing happened, don't be surprised if you see a 21-year-old artist do something similar, with a wedding ring or something. It's going to happen.

Do you ever consider retirement?
From time to time I do consider it. It's a busy life. So you want to sit back and think about doing different things and imagine what it'd be like. Deion Sanders was able to suit up for a baseball game and a football game in the same day. You think about him; you go, "Wow, what else should I do?"

I saw that you were protesting the Eric Garner verdict in New York City with Russell Simmons the other night. Do you have the activist calling at all?
But we're already that. We're already activists. I'm looking at what's happening to the world, and I'm waiting for people to stop being scared. Mainly whites in power and in government, to not be scared of the race issue. Not be scared to say, "This is wrong, and this has to change." Not be scared to do what's right.

You've been in New York so long and seen Sean Bell, Amadou Diallo. Are you surprised that cops are still killing innocent people?
Unfortunately, I'm not surprised cops are still murdering people. But I am surprised that the law enforcement did not do the correct thing with illegal chokeholds. A chokehold because of a man stating his piece—telling them he didn't do anything. An illegal chokehold! It's embarrassing to New York, and it's embarrassing to the country. I've got to go around the world, and people will ask me, "What's wrong with America?" This is why they don't like us. And this is why they're going to beat us. When they see that weakness, they're seeing a way to take us down. The outside world, they've already seen that. But even more now with the apartheidisms that's going on today. We can sweep it under the rug, but when we sweep it under the rug, the rest of the world smells the debris.

What do you say when people ask what's wrong with America?
I say America's about fighters, and we fight each other sometimes, but that's what family does. I try to make up shit, because it's embarrassing, and they see through it. If the plane brings me to Paris and all over the news is the police shooting down dark people in the streets? I'd look at all of them as savages. And I'd say, "Wow, what's wrong?" It's transparent. They see what's going on over here. And they laugh at our government and law enforcement. That's one more for them. They're really the civilized ones. And they see everyone as being more civilized than America. And we've got nothing to say.

What's the role of an artist in this situation?
The situation has created the artist to begin with. It's the backdrop to KRS-One's greatest album, By All Means Necessary. It's the backdrop to N.W.A.'s world-changing albums and The Chronic. The Chronic is all about the Rodney King verdict—besides him dissing the people he had to dis, it's about the Rodney King verdict and the riots. It makes artists create and speak. The way James Baldwin did. The way Stevie Wonder did. The way Marvin Gaye said, "What's going on?" We are the results of the bullshit. I'm here, partially, because of the bullshit that's been going on. I'm a voice. I wouldn't know that Compton existed in 1988, 1989, if it weren't for those geniuses from that side called N.W.A. I wouldn't have even known the place existed. I wouldn't have known they suffered from the same stuff we suffered from in Queensbridge. We were beating our African drums to each other the same way we've always done since the beginning of time. It's crazy. But that's what we were doing. But rap music has never respected politics. We've never trusted anything. That's the way the streets are. But it's a whole new day. The guys who talked against the system—now the people want that person, that voice, to help change the system.

Jhene Aiko and Tiffany Evans have new visuals for their respective tracks “Spotless Mind” and “Baby Don’t Go”. And their love interests are…well…rather interesting. Peep the vids inside….

Jhene Aikohas released brand new visuals for “Spotless Mind”, which is featured on her debut album Souled Out.

In the Jay Ahn-directed video, the “Bed Peace” singer gets playful with her real-life child’s father O’Ryan (Omarion’s younger brother) who plays her love interest. He pulls out all the stops to keep her happy, but it just isn’t good enough and he eventually chucks the deuces. Hmm...art mimicking their life perhaps?

Jhene and O’Ryan have a daughter together named Namiko Love Grandberry. It's nice to see they have a good relationship outside of their co-parenting duties, but, don’t look for the two to get back together anytime soon. "The Worst" singer is currently dating producer Dot Da Genius.

This year is shaping up to be an eventful one for the soulful singer. She has been nominated for three Grammy awards, which include nods in the Best R&B Song category for “The Worst”, Best Urban Contemporary Album category for Sail Out and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration as a feature in Common’s "Black Majik".

Check out her visuals below:

In another new music video....

R&B singer Tiffany Evans took a little break from the music industry to live her life, getting married to her husband Lorenzo Henderson then giving birth to their baby girl Adalia Sarai Henderson in 2012. But now, she’s ready to make an official comeback on the music scene with her latest musical offering "Baby Don't Go".

The “Promise Ring” singer (who was once managed by Mathew Knowles) gave her new track the video treatment, and it also serves as her directorial debut as she was the one calling the shots for the new clip. As for her love interest, the 22-year-old Bronx native called upon former “Scandal” actor Columbus Short. Hmph.

“Baby Don’t Go” is expected to be featured on her forthcoming EP, slated to drop early 2015. Peep the video above.
