SPEAK ON IT: Tyler Perry REVEALS His RACIAL PROFILING Incident, Says FBI Should DECLARE Them Hate Crimes

Tyler Perry recently revealed to fans that even at his level of success, Black men are not immune to harassment from the police. Read his first-person account of racial profiling inside and why he thinks it should be declared a hate crime.

On his Facebook fan page this past Sunday, Tyler Perry discussed the Trayvon Martin case.  But most importantly, he revealed a very recent racial profiling incident he experienced with Atlanta police.  Read it here:

A few days before President Obama was supposed to speak at my studio, I was leaving the studio, headed to the airport. Most times when I leave the studio I have an unmarked escort. Other times I constantly check in my rearview mirror to be sure that I'm not being followed. It’s a safety precaution that my security team taught me. As I got to an intersection, I made a left turn from the right lane and was pulled over by two police officers. I pulled the car over and put it in park. Then, I let the window down and sat in the car waiting for the officer. The officer came up to the driver’s door and said that I made an illegal turn. I said, "I signaled to get into the turning lane, then made the turn because I have to be sure I’m not being followed." He said, “why do you think someone would be following you?”

Before I could answer him, I heard a hard banging coming from the passenger window. I had never been in this position before so I asked the officer who was at my window what was going on and why is someone banging on the window like that. He said, “let your window down, let your window down. Your windows are tinted.” As I let down the passenger window, there was another officer standing on the passenger side of the car. He said, “what is wrong with you?” The other officer said to him, “he thinks he’s being followed.” Then, the second officer said, “why do you think someone is following you? What is wrong with you?”

Before I could answer the officer on the passenger side, the one on the driver's side had reached into the car and started pulling on the switch that turns the car on and off, saying, “put your foot on the brake, put your foot on the brake!” I was so confused as to what he was doing, or what he thought he was doing. It looked like he was trying to pull the switch out of the dashboard. I finally realized that he thought that switch was the key, so I told him that it wasn’t the key he was grabbing. I reached down into the cup holder to get the key, not realizing that the key had a black leather strap on it. As I grabbed it they both tensed up and I dropped it as I heard my mother’s voice from when I was a little boy.

My mother would always say to me, “if you get stopped by the police, especially if they are white policemen, you say ‘yes sir’ and ‘no sir’, and if they want to take you in, you go with them. Don’t resist, you hear me? Don’t make any quick moves, don’t run, you just go.” My mother was born in 1945 into a segregated hotbed town in rural Louisiana. She had known of many colored men at the time who were lynched and never heard from again. Since I was her only son for ten years, growing up she was so worried about me. It wasn’t until after I heard her voice that I realized that both of these officers were white.

The officer on the driver's side continued to badger me, “why do you think someone is following you?” I then said, “I think you guys need to just write the ticket and do whatever you need to do.” It was so hostile. I was so confused. It was happening so fast that I could easily see how this situation could get out of hand very quickly. I didn’t feel safe at all. But one officer stopped his questioning and said, “we may not let you go. You think you’re being followed, what’s wrong with you?” At this point, I told him that I wanted to get out of the car. I wanted the passersby to see what was happening.

As I stepped out of the car another officer pulled up in front of my car. This officer was a black guy. He took one look at me and had that “Oh No” look on his face. He immediately took both officers to the back of my car and spoke to them in a hushed tone. After that, one of the officers stayed near his car while one came back, very apologetic.

I said all of that to say this: do you see how quickly this could have turned for the worse?

Now I know that there are many great officers, patrolmen and security guys out there. I am aware of that. But although we have made significant strides with racial profiling in this country, the world needs to know that we are still being racially profiled, and until this situation has improved greatly, I’m not sure how a murder in Florida can be protected by a “stand your ground law.”

And in another case that I have been screaming at the top of my lungs about, also in Florida, is the case of Terrance Williams and Felipe Santos, a young black man and a young Mexican man. Eight years ago, in Naples, FL, they were both put in the back of Deputy Steve Calkins' police car and never heard from again.

They were never arrested, never brought to jail. They were put into the back of Deputy Calkins' car and never heard from again. And to this day Deputy Steve Calkins is a free man.

I guess it's time to march in Naples now.

RACIAL PROFILING SHOULD BE A HATE CRIME INVESTIGATED BY THE FBI!!!

That way local government can’t make the decision on whether or not these people get punished.

-Tyler

Over in Tokyo today, Rihanna hit the official red carpet premiere for her upcoming flick Battleship rocking Emilio Pucci.  Check out her blue floral satin pantsuit inside...

Still rocking the long black party-shaven hairstyle she recently switched up to, Rihanna and her co-stars and fans braved storm-force winds and rain in Tokyo.  The all-star cast includes Rihanna [in her first movie], Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker (in Stella McCartney), Tadanobu Asano and Taylor Kitsch, all pictured.

Rihanna rocked this Fall 2012 Emilio Pucci blue and gold metallic pantsuit/pajamas style look for her big premiere.  Apparently pajama style is all the rage because we've seen Rih in this look before as well as other celeb red carpet staples.

She kept her jewelry gold toned and tan heels for the occasion.

Nice.  Battleship premieres May 18th.

And here's a few more of her personal Instagram pics showing off her new 'do:

[Click pics for large images]

Rihanna also spoke with the Associated Press this week and the subject of Whitney Houston's biopic came up.  And, as rumored for a while now, Rihanna spoke about portraying the icon herself:

“That would be something that I would have to give my entire life to do because I would want to really pull it off,” she said to The Press Association. “That’s a huge, huge role and whoever does it has to do a good job.”

“My first song that I remember falling in love with was a Whitney Houston song — ‘I Will Always Love You,’” she continued. “It was really inspiring and it made me develop a passion for music, so really she’s partly responsible for me being here in this industry.”

FOOLYWANG MATERIAL! In Case You Missed It: Pastor Puts STRIPPER POLE In Pulpit To SAVE Marriages!

If you're one of our Ohio readers, you can make your way down to Pastor Mike Scruggs' church for a new take on "the word."  He takes a more "modern" approach to his sermons which often covers sex, drugs, and other worldly issues. Most recently, he put a stripper pole in the pulpit.....for his series of sermons called "Battle Of The Sexes." Deets inside....

Church is anything but boring at the Light of Word Ministries in White Oak, Ohio.  Pastor Mike Scruggs is on a mission to save "marriage"  so he put a stripper pole (as well as a bed) in the pulpit for his series of sermons on marriage called "Battle Of The Sexes."  And guess what....he had a packed house!

Pastor Scruggs also scattered dollar bills, lacy lingerie and killer high heels at the base of the neon pink pole.  On the opposite end of what men want, he had a stage for candy, roses, teddy bears, and a bottle of wine (for what women want).

Scruggs defends his teaching saying:

"We talk about sex. We talk about drugs. We talk about faith. We talk about relationships ... , things that people are dealing with on a day-to-day basis.

On one side [we'll have] what men want or desire: your stripper pole, your video games, your sports.  The woman's side [is] orderly, neat. It's all about love, candy, teddy bears, roses and being wined and dined and cherished."

No word yet on how many marriages (or souls) were saved.

Gotta love 'The Church'....

Nicki Minaj taped an appearance on "106 & Park" that aired today, where she promoted the release of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.  Watch the interview and performance clips (she found Cam'Ron) inside and see what she told DJ Clue about working with Nas and M.I.A.'s flip out.....

Nicki Minaj stopped by "106 & Park" to chat with Terrence J about her sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.  During her performance segment, she was joined by a few special guests (including Birdman) as she ran through a melody of tracks off her sophomore LP: “HOV Lane,” “I Am Your Leader” with Cam’ron, “Beez in the Trap” with 2 Chainz, “Champion” and more.

Watch the "106 & Park" interview segment here:

Watch the performance clip below:

And arlier today, Nicki also stopped by DJ Clue's Power 105 show to promote Roman Reloaded.

Here are the highlights:

On M.I.A. and the Super Bowl incident:

“I love M.I.A. She’s cuckoo sometimes, but I love her.”

On whether she believes in the sophomore jinx:

“Hell no! This album is gonna sell so much more than Pink Friday. Ask me this question two years from today, Clue. With me, I’m never about first week and all that. I like to look at it for the long haul. I’ma travel, I’ma meet my beautiful babies, my Barbz everywhere, and this is my first time I’m gonna get to do a world tour, so the album is gonna do its thang.”

On mixing pop, R&B, and hip-hop on Roman Reloaded:

“When I first got in the studio, it was just gonna be all rap, that’s why I named it Roman Reloaded. Things just don’t keep my attention long enough to only do one thing. By the time the album was done, it was just a versatile album. But I have to say, I feel like people love saying the pop word first. The album is more hip-hop than pop.”

On working with Nas on “Champion”:

“I didn’t think I could get Nas, just to be honest. He’s always been so exclusive. He doesn’t work with everybody and I respect people that are like that. They take pride in their craft.”

On her Pepsi deal:

“I can’t comment on any Pepsi-related stuff. I do have a new relationship with Pepsi and they will tell everyone more at the right time.”

On her upcoming collaborations:

“I may have a little something something coming out with [Cam'ron]. I may have a little something something coming with Waka Flocka, my little brother. I do have a few more verses to hand in and then we got to hit the world a couple times.”

On her favorite songs to record:

“I had a blast recording a lot of my dance songs, ‘Pound the Alarm’ and ‘Starships.’ Those were a lot of fun. I had fun recording ‘Come on a Cone.’ I was busting out laughing in the booth. When I said, ‘Dick in your face,’ that was in one take. And I also had fun doing ‘Beez in the Trap’ ’cause I made that hook up trying to be funny.”

YBF celebs turned up for the star studded Think Like A Man red carpet movie premiere in Atlanta Tuesday night.  Pics inside of celeb supports and the ensemble cast including Gabrielle Union, Terrence J., Regina Hall, LaLa, Kevin Hart & more....

From Tuesday's big red carpet premiere at Atlantic Station Regal Cinemas:

We've died and gone to canary heaven.  Gabrielle Union hit the red carpet in this spring-ready bright yellow slightly sheer floor length pleated gown.  It's definitely not her usual litte black dress...and thankfully so.  She decided to stand out with the color and good hair and makeup.  Looking FAB Gabby.

She stopped to chat up "X-Factor" first season's 4th place winner Marcus Canty.

Terrence J, who also stars in the film, showed off his model girlfriend Selita Ebanks.  Are these two headed to the Easter Sunday program?  Or were the matching outfits purely coincidental?  We do love the color combo on TJ though.

Pretty beading and sparkling dress for Selita.  And she paired it with her clear & silver spiked heels.

Co-star Michael Ealy looked hot as usual hitting the carpet.  Those eyes...

Terrence, producer Will Packard and Ne-Yo chatted it up while in the press line.

Co-stars Regina Hall & LaLa Anthony hit the carpet in colorful flirty looks.

Can't decide how I feel about this here look.  It's interesting.

Absolutely loved Keshia Knight Pulliam's red carpet look...until I gt to the knee.  Why is the skirt closing back up after the slit?  Shouldn't it have gone all the way down?  Did the designer change their mind halfway through?  Just interesting....

Such a fab chick though.

Oh...is this your new boo Jasmine Guy?  The two were clearly acting like a couple on the carpet.  And we are NOT mad.

Actress Vanessa Williams was on hand to support.

And so was her girl Terri Vaughn.  I swear she tapped into Lavita Alize Jenkins' closet for this look.  Still loves her though.

T.I. made his red carpet appearance as well.  Been hitting those weights we see.

"For Better Or Worse" star Tasha Smith, carrying her Gucci Hysteria bag, hit the carpet with her husband and fam.

The man who kicked off this common sense turned advice novel Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man was there of course.  Steve Harvey & his wife Marjorie looked color coordinated and cutesy.

Co-star Romany Malco hit the carpet in all black everything.

Actor Dondre Whitfield made an appearance.

Newly divorced "For Better or Worse" actor Michael Jai White hit the carpet with his girlfriend.

The comedic star of the film, Kevin Hart, made his appearance of course.

Judge Hatchett made a colorful appearance.  Chick stays on a red carpet doesn't she?

Nelly snapped some pics with youngin' Jacob Lattimore.

And ATL's Mayor Kasim Reed hit the carpet as well.  Fab times all around!

Think Like A Man hits theaters April 20th.

Rihanna Rocks May 2012 ELLE, Dishes On Hardships Of Finding A Man, Chris Brown & The Backlash

Rihanna is all about Versace for the May 2012 cover of ELLE magazine.  The "Cake" singer is exposing all (back when she was blonde) in a rock & roll inspired yellow jacket, bandeau top and skirt.  And by all, we mean she's holding nothing back about the Chris Brown reunion, why her critics don't phase her in the least bit, and why kids could be in her very near future.

Check out the spread and highlights inside...

[In Emporio Armani]

It's as simple as black and white--the theme for Rihanna's new ELLE magazine photoshoot.  Rihanna revealed that she could care less what people think about her life choices because she's going to do what she wants to do anyway.  Including reuniting with Chris Brown on wax. She says finding a man is hard for everyone (famous or not famous), but having a boyfriend isn't what makes her happy anyway.  The 24-year old also went into detail about finding happiness with herself and her career...and simply doing her.

She shot the romantic themed shoot back in February with photographer Tom Munro, and chose to go the blonde route specifically for the shoot.  And her hairstylist Ursula Stephens and makeup artist Mylah Morales handled the beauty's looks.  Here are the interview highlights:

On her breakup with Chris Brown: “It gave me guns. I was like, well, fuck. They know more about me than I want them to know. It’s embarrassing. But that was my opening. That was my liberation, my moment of bring it. […] Now you know that, so you can say what you want about it. I don’t have anything to hide.”

On the backlash over their reconciliation: “The bottom line is that everyone thinks differently. It’s very hard for me to accept, but I get it. People end up wasting their time on the blogs or whatever, ranting away, and that’s all right. Because tomorrow I’m still going to be the same person. I’m still going to do what I want to do.”

On having kids: “It could be tomorrow. It could be 20 years from now. I just feel like when the time is right, God will send me a little angel. But first, of course, I have to find a man. I mean, there’s a very important missing piece to the puzzle here!”

On finding that man: “I feel like it’s hard for everybody! I don’t think it has anything to do with being famous. There’s just a major drought out there. […] But I just need to find the person who balances me out, because then things like my schedule won’t matter. I’ve done it before, so I know I can do it again.”

About the adoption, she said,

"I've been writing adoption into story lines on my shows and only a few people close to me knew about my plans," says Rhimes, who adopted daughter Harper in 2002. "I think the response was 'oh my goodness' from a lot of people." She added, "Emerson is incredibly mellow," says proud mama Rhimes. "We're just doing a lot of bonding right now. Remember when (now ex) Miami Dolphin wide receiver, Brandon Marshall, was stabbed in the stomach by his wife, Michi Nogami-Marshall, during a fight at their home?  Well now that she's been bailed out of jail, the twosome were out on a dinner date last night like nothing happened.

Check the pic inside...

In April of last year, Brandon and Michi got into a fight and Michi had to get bailed out of jail after stabbing her husband of 3 years in the stomach.

She was released on $7500 bond and claimed she was simply defending herself because Brandon attacked her.  This was not the couple's first domestic battle as both were charged for disorderly conduct after fighting outside their home in 2009.  And Brandon has a domestic abuse history dating back to 2006.

But all seems well with the couple at the moment.  The twosome was spotted arriving to Prime 112 for dinner last night in Miami.  Meanwhile, Brandon said he will likely return to the Dolphins next season.

Iggy Azalea Gets DAZED, DISHES ON STEREOTYPES In The Rap Game & Why It's Hard Being a Female MC

$
0
0

Australian born rapper Iggy Azalea is making waves (and trending topics) for both her provacative lyrics and her lily white looks amongst the rough Grand Hustle crew.  And in the April issue of DAZED, Iggy addresses people's preconceived notions about white rappers, female MCs, and other stereotypes affecting her music.  See article highlights and check out her latest "I Think She Ready" shoppable video with FKI and Diplo.

It's not easy being a single white female.....at least not in the rap game.  In the latest issue of DAZED, Interscope artist, Iggy Azalea, chronicles her rise from rural Australia to being a part of T.I.'s crew.  She also discusses being taken seriously and how she blends fashion and art.

Here are some highlights:

On falling in love with American rap and hip hop:

Iggy Azalea: I heard a Tupac song at a friend’s house down the street and it all really started from there. There was something about it that truly touched me. From that day, I got every video, album and magazine related to hip-hop that I could get my hands on. I was obsessed.

On how her fashion sense and love of music meet:

Iggy Azalea:  I used to wear Timberland boots and boy jeans because I wanted to dress in a way that would make people would look at me and be able to tell what style of music I liked. Although, as I grew older, I gradually stopped caring if I looked or sounded the way a rapper is 'supposed' to sound; then the high heels, skirts and Vogue magazines became a staple in my life again.

On being a white rap artist in Sydney:

Iggy Azalea: Being a teenage white girl didn't make me stand out as much as you'd imagine - Australia has a lot of white kids in it! There weren’t too many girls on the mic but there were definitely a lot of girls at the events because it was a cool place to hang out; and a place to meet boys and look cute. I always felt in my heart that I was a champion, so hearing boo's from a crowd just made me want to prove them all wrong and get better.

On being a woman in the rap game:

Iggy Azalea: Race to me is a low blow that people just use when they have nothing real to hate on. To me, being a woman is the biggest hindrance; a lot of people don't want to see a woman on the mic, just like they don't want to see a woman play an electric guitar. There are a million and one things that I go through as a woman and as a human being that we can all relate to, and colour is just an extremely small thing to me. I have to view it that way if I want the rest of the world to take on that mind frame too.

On being stereotyped for her "appearance":

Iggy Azalea: There are a million and one stereotypes people try to put on me every day. How a woman should act, how an Australian should act, how a white person should act, what ‘real rap’ is, what we consider to be beautiful. I’m blind to them all in my creative process. A stereotype should never hinder art if you’re brave about it, and I try to be.

On referencing Basquiat on her Ignorant Art mixtape:

Iggy Azalea: Yeah, the cover and title for my mixtape is a reference to Basquiat, who's an artist and personality I find really interesting. I think he really just did whatever he wanted in a time and place when people tried to stereotype what a 'black' artist should or should not be, or even what 'good art' should be. He just did his own thing, and I love that.

Also, Iggy just dropped the first-ever interactive shoppable music video for FKI's “I Think She Ready.” The video (which also features Diplo) was shot in LA by Alex 2Tone and styled by SSENSE. Every item featured is available to purchase directly through the video.

Where there's smoke....there's fire. After all the rumors that Kanye cheated on Amber Rose with Kim Kardashian, Mr. West drops an admission bomb tonight on his new "Theraflu" track. Check it inside...

According to Miss Info, this "Theraflu" track that just debuted tonight on Funkmaster Flex's show will actually appear on Kanye's upcoming solo album that he's releasing after his upcoming G.O.O.D. Music compilation album.

Here's the cover artwork and track:

Um, these lines right here need to be discussed:

“And the whole industry wanna f–k your old G. Only n—a I got respect for is Wiz. And I’ll admit I fell in love with Kim ’round the same time she fell in love with him. Well that’s cool, Babygirl, do your thing. Lucky I didn’t get Jay to drop him from the team.“

Damn! Not only does 'Ye admit to falling for Kim K. while she was married, but even threw shade at her ex husband Kris Humphries saying he should be thankful Kris' boss Jay-Z (The Nets) spared him his job.  Womp!

Well at least he referenced that he has no beef with Wiz Khalifa.  Loves it when 'Ye gets ish off his chest....

By the way, the track has a similar "Nigg*s In Paris" beat since 'Ye used the same producer, Hit-Boy.  You feelin' it?

BONUS:

Kanye, 2 Chainz, Big Sean & Pusha-T are set to drop the official first G.O.O.D. Music compilation single, "Mercy," this Friday.

Reality chick & Garb Boutique owner Toya Wright (28) rocked her blue/yellow/white/red multi colored striped short sleeved dress with blue and nude wedges, a red belt and matching red Gucci bowling bag.

Singer/songwriter/ATL Housewife/TAGS boutique owner Kandi Burruss (35) rocked the same dress--but paired hers with red maryjanes, a wide red patent belt and a matching red Valentino bag.

The Think Like A Man cast is continuing on their national tour-de-red-carpet-premieres as they rolled into New York last night.  Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union, Keri Hilson, Terrence J & Selita Ebanks, Jennifer Williams and plenty more all came out to celebrate the film.

We've got all the pics inside....

Last night at the in New York City, plenty of celebs made their way to the AMC Empire 25 theater for the NYC red carpet premiere of the much anticipated romantic comedy flick Think Like A Man:

Yes Gabby!  Loving that she's backing away from her typical boring black dress look for this round of premieres.  After rocking a beautiful canary Bill Blass gown at Tuesday night's Atlanta premiere, the co-star switched it up to a deep plunging curve hugging red dress for her big night. She paired the look with simple black sandals and a box clutch.  Very nice.

Co-star Terrence J. hit the carpet with model girlfriend Selita Ebanks, who rocked a pretty peach one-shoulder frock for her man's big night.

And the "106 & Park" host also kicked it with BET's Stephen Hill. Nice ivory suit Mr. Hill!

Co-star Taraji P. Henson rocked a youthful look as she hit the carpet with "X-Factor" contestant Astro.

Im not the biggest fan of this floral pants trend.  And defintely not a fan when it comes off more country than chic.  Likely because T matched the pants to these new pink YSL Tributes we're not loving, along with the ruffle-trim blouse and bow-embellished Valentino purse.  It's just a bit much.  But we love her nonetheless.

Hey Astro!

Keri Hilson, who makes a cameo in the movie and also appears on the soundtrack, flashed her yellow nails on the carpet alongside Terrence J and Stephen Hill.

The singer kept it simple in a black Jean Paul Gaultier pantsuit with a sexy deep plunging neckline.  And accompanying Mawi London accessories. Very nice.

"Basketball Wife" Jennifer Williams hit the carpet in a flirty black lace mini dress and lace-up boots.

"Love & Hip Hop" star Olivia hit the carpet in a striped maxi dress.  Not loving the blazer with it...or the shoes.  She's a gorgeous girl and could have rocked something more flattering.

Co-star Regina Hall looked fresh faced and fab last night for her premiere:

Can't help but laugh when I see this chick.  She's so silly and I LOVE it.

LaLa Anthony, who has a role in the movie, hit the carpet in this salmon partly sheer dress with......the dreaded white shoes!  Cute hair though.

Co-star Romany Malco hit the carpet in a full out pinstripe suit.  Not loving the tie choice.  (He looks HOT in the movie though.)

Co-stars Kevin Hart & Michael Ealy laughed it up on the carpet:

YES.

Damn...haven't seen this YSL belt in a while.  Loves Kevin.

John Legend, who appears on the soundtrack, made an appearance with his lady-in-red, model fiancee Christine Teigen.

Jadakiss made a random appearance.

Producer Will Packer (right) hit the carpet with director Tim Story (left).

Y'all already know Adrienne Bailon made her way to this carpet.  At least she was covered up this time.  She posed with her bestie Julissa Bermudez.

And the author of the novel Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man, Steve Harvey, had his wife Marjorie on his arm of course.  These two just scream "We just turned in our Deacon Board application."  I mean Marjorie coouldn't rock that sheerness as a first lady. Wwell actually, you never know...

The cast of Think Like A Man will be guests on "The Wendy Williams Show" today.  And Wendy has a small role in the movie as well.
